as much as

She wants an equal amount of fear between those?

[-] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 48 points 3 weeks ago

that's… certainly one way to interpret that saying. it's more like… "the thing you currently fear? i wish you'd put that energy into what you should actually fear"

[-] s@piefed.world 19 points 3 weeks ago

I understood the intent. I just thought it was poorly phrased (and that it potentially could have been satirical bait).

[-] usernamefactory@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 weeks ago

I don't think parents should really be afraid of either. Parents have enough scaremongering aimed at them as is. "What if my kid turns out to be a pedophile?" isn't actually a helpful thought that's likely to encourage good parenting.

[-] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

We've got such a long way to go. Just breaking even would be a huge improvement.

[-] Triumph@fedia.io 4 points 3 weeks ago

It's a start.

Full disclosure: I totally worried about that.

[-] DarthFreyr@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

Equating the desired fear of the former to the present fear of the gay (in some people). I also infer the desired fear of gay sons should be equal to present fear of the former or, better yet, none.

[-] jaggedrobotpubes@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

Surely you cannot be this stupid.

No. This much stupid requires effort.

So quit it.

[-] s@piefed.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

How much effort did you put into convincing yourself that I was saying that in earnest?

Shit, I'm just worrying they'll be fucking idiots. I'll be a happy dad if they're just good dudes, you know?

[-] Meron35@lemmy.world 18 points 3 weeks ago

The monkey's paw curls, and people fear their children being gay, because they think gay people are groomers/rapists/pedophiles.

No /s, because this is an actual basis for people hating on trans people, drag queens, and gay people

[-] Soulg@ani.social 17 points 3 weeks ago

I think people do fear those things...

[-] copd@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

I'm absolutely certain more people fear their kids being those things over homosexual.

so this meme is literally asking for more people to be homophobic

garbage meme

[-] Soup@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

Even if it were backwards the post would be asking for people to care less about the first stuff, since you’re saying they don’t care that much about having gay sons. The level of homophobia does not change and the post is wouldn’t be asking for that in any valid interpretation.

Reading comprehension isn’t that hard, dude.

[-] Seleni@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

This post is turning into an impromptu reading comprehension test for a lot of people it seems

[-] jj4211@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

I think they may be more horrified finding out their children become those things, but I don't think they actively fear that possibility in advance. Contrast with the gay scenario where a fair number of parents actively fear that possibility well in advance of any signs that might even be a thing.

[-] Dragonstaff@leminal.space 5 points 3 weeks ago

All I know is that a lot of families will protect their rapist son and kick their gay kid out of the house.

As someone who was almost kidnapped by a woam at the age of 7 I am getting a bit tired if people acting like this sort of shit is only carried out by men.

[-] ickplant@lemmy.world 11 points 3 weeks ago

Her handle is @Starseed999 on TikTok for anyone interested.

[-] ickplant@lemmy.world 10 points 3 weeks ago

It’s not promotion, it’s providing a source.

[-] DrDystopia@lemy.lol 3 points 3 weeks ago

Your mother is your source.

[-] ickplant@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

Is this the White House speaking?

[-] DrDystopia@lemy.lol 2 points 3 weeks ago

No, I'm far too polite, I'm just a freelance-yomama.

I don't think I know a single person, male or female, who'd rather their son be a pedophile or a rapist instead of gay...

[-] DarthFreyr@lemmy.world 16 points 3 weeks ago

You can't imagine a person who would excuse getting someone so drunk they no longer refuse sex as "boys will be boys" behavior or similar nonsense, but would express actual disapproval of their child entering a same-sex relationship? It doesn't just mean "convicted of assaulting a young white woman at gunpoint".

[-] spirinolas@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Yes, I can imagine it. I'm talking about reality, not my imagination.

[-] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 weeks ago

So, congrats on having good taste in friends, I guess? What was your point?

[-] spirinolas@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

What is your point? I never said anything about friends. I made a simple assertion that, for some reason, seemed to bother you.

[-] DarthFreyr@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago

If you are limiting your statement to people you personally know, then it's not responding to the statement in the image, so why would we assume that was your intended interpretation? If you are stating that you can imagine a person like I described exists, but no real person could possibly match that description, you are talking nonsense. If you are merely stating your personal ignorance of other people, then congratulations, weird flex but educate yourself.

Since you don't know, it would be bothersome to normal people if someone says something about the world (as they interpret that statement, as mentioned) that is untrue, or if they perceive someone to be making efforts to detract from good-faith conversation. Perhaps that alleviates your uncertainty about the reason.

[-] spirinolas@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

Dude, I'm not biting. I said my piece, interpret it however you want.

[-] Soup@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago

There are tens of millions of people in the states making excuses for rapists and creeps while demanding the rights be stripped from gay people.

The biggest probably is that they don’t consider half of those things to be real problems and will do as much mental gymnastics as possible to get away from that. A adult fucks a minor but marries them and suddenly it’s “love” and ok by them and they don’t ever need to think any harder about it. They can rage against pedophilia to their hearts content because to them those things are not the same but if a dude dresses better than shit and likes to draw they’ll bust out “GAY” as an insult.

Obligatory Let's Generalize About Men because it's a bop.

[-] glorkon@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago

I do not fear my son being gay in the slightest. I only want him to be happy. Also, if he happens to be gay or trans, what with the current climate in society and all the hate coming from the right... it's when he would need me as a supportive dad the most.

[-] Scubus@sh.itjust.works 7 points 3 weeks ago

Thing is, its easy to teach your kid not to do those things, but you cant teach them not to be gay. No reason to be afraid of it, but its definitely understandable that you would have more concerns over things that are beyond your control than things that are.

[-] HalfSalesman@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

Its easy to teach them to not rape or abuse but you can't "teach" them to not be attracted to anyone or thing, unfortunately, including children...

(or feet)

[-] Scubus@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 weeks ago

Hmm yeah, i guess fair. You can certainly teach them not to act on those impulses though.

[-] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 weeks ago

including children...

(or feet)

As if these were equivalent.

[-] HalfSalesman@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

Second one was to lighten the mood of my post.

[-] Flickerby@lemmy.zip 6 points 3 weeks ago

There's SO much of all of those in the Bible I imagine they feel more comfortable writing that off as a "little whoopsie" but GOOD LORD if you're gay that's a direct reflection on my failure as a parent, how could I ever show up to the annual pot luck dinner knowing my child made me look bad?

[-] kreskin@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

I feared them being an asshole. I dont want to live with an asshole for ~20 years

[-] SabinStargem@lemmy.today 2 points 3 weeks ago

The key difference between being gay and one of those things: Power. The ability to trample other peoples lives is the highest morality one can possess.

At least, in the eyes of horrible people.

[-] biotin7@sopuli.xyz 2 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

So we are pedosmearing children now & spreading false threat-narratives. Ok. I think I know exactly what to do with this

[-] DarthFreyr@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago

What? I don't see where children are mentioned other than implied as victims of pedophilia. "Sons" does not imply children.

Lol this fuckin guy thinks he can sneak this dorky word in and make you think that pedophiles aren't the bad guys.

I wonder why someone would want pedophiles not to be correctly thought of as the bad guys.
