that's… certainly one way to interpret that saying. it's more like… "the thing you currently fear? i wish you'd put that energy into what you should actually fear"
I understood the intent. I just thought it was poorly phrased (and that it potentially could have been satirical bait).
I don't think parents should really be afraid of either. Parents have enough scaremongering aimed at them as is. "What if my kid turns out to be a pedophile?" isn't actually a helpful thought that's likely to encourage good parenting.
We've got such a long way to go. Just breaking even would be a huge improvement.

Full disclosure: I totally worried about that.
Equating the desired fear of the former to the present fear of the gay (in some people). I also infer the desired fear of gay sons should be equal to present fear of the former or, better yet, none.
