Related to a class action regarding privacy violations in the Cambridge Analytica scandal.

You can apply if you:

  • held a Facebook account between 2 November 2013 and 17 December 2015 (the eligibility period)

  • were in Australia for more than 30 days during that period, and

  • either installed the Life app or were Facebook friends with someone who did.

Try this link to see if the company has records of you or your friends logging into the Digital Life app. If there are, you should be able to use the “fast track” application.

I was active back then, but I no longer have an active facebook account, so I have no easy way to confirm my eligibility.

~~It looks like you can apply even if you don't know you're affected and they (KPMG) will determine eligibility, but that's a lot of personal information for a "maybe"~~

The FAQ makes me much less confident in my previous statement

Well, it turns out I can use emails from facebook in that time period as proof, and I've got plenty of those. However... I would need to provide my ID to facebook to make a claim, and the reason I no longer have a facebook account is my adamant refusal to provide my ID to them.

So thus it ends before it begins :)

I'm calling it now.

We're all getting a heap of spam emails/texts from scammers about this.

I estimate it under Nigerian and 'i hacked your computer' levels, but above BCF and Bunnings levels.

These settlements are always peanuts.

$50 million? For Facebook?

In German they'd say: "it doesn't even give them an itch".

I have, altogether, made over $600 from FaceBook/meta class action privacy lawsuits in the past decade. In that time, I have not used FB (or even logged in), but I have also never deleted my account.

The payouts have been getting smaller - used to be $100+. The last one I got (this year) was for ~$40 or so.

Guessing I won't be able to partake having never used my real name on Facebook.
