It is much easier to build this robot army if Tesla doesn’t give away 1 trillion dollars and uses that money to invest in the actual robots. Hoarding money doesn’t help anyone expect the person hoarding it. Musk is already a billionaire and is doing nothing for Tesla with his current wealth.

“My fundamental concern … is if I go ahead and build this enormous robot army, can I just be ousted (as CEO) at some point in the future?” Musk said. “I don’t feel comfortable wielding that robot army if I don’t have at least a strong influence,” he added.
It's great how in either scenario he maintains control of the robot army, but in one he's menacingly uncomfortable.
