A pro-MAGA website that urged supporters to fund a database unmasking Charlie Kirk critics took tens of thousands in crypto—then vanished, infuriating donors.

The site, Expose Charlie’s Murderers, launched hours after the assassination of the right-wing influencer, 31, in September. It promised a searchable trove of names and workplaces for “the largest firing operation in history,” according to Drop Site’s review of the now-offline project.

The site listed six crypto wallets and raised more than $30,000 between Sept. 12 and 14 before repeatedly going dark, resurfacing as the “Charlie Kirk Data Foundation,” and disappearing again, Drop Site reported.

Unironically wish I had thought about this first. I could use an extra $30k.

[-] myfunnyaccountname@lemmy.zip 12 points 6 days ago

Is it too late to do it again? Just asking for a friend

[-] zebidiah@lemmy.ca 8 points 6 days ago

Are you really asking if you can run the same grift on the "fell for it, again" crowd a second time?

[-] switcheroo@lemmy.world 9 points 6 days ago

Someone is surprised? It's a grift. It's always a grift.

[-] _stranger_@lemmy.world 10 points 6 days ago

I wish I had thought of that.

[-] whiwake@sh.itjust.works 3 points 6 days ago

Right? I hope they were lefties.

[-] titanicx@lemmy.zip 7 points 6 days ago

Genius.i applaud these guys.

[-] technocrit@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 6 days ago

And yet people still dare to say that crypto has no use...

[-] fodor@lemmy.zip 2 points 6 days ago

The donors are not actually infuriated. They knew that the site was run by scum ... All of Kirk's retrospective supporters are big fat liars ... but still the donors are hoping to get some sympathy, hoping you'll forget that they don't have an ounce of empathy.

[-] drhodl@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

This was probably run by one of the dumb tRump sons. My money would be on Baron, as the other two are probably not smart enough.

[-] SethTaylor@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

It's ok, Baron has his whole life ahead of him to prove he's dumb. lol

[-] eve@evecodes.com 1 points 6 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

MAGAts are just so damn gullible. They fell for the same thing with Bannon’s Trump Wall donations and then he vanished with the money. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice …

[-] MushuChupacabra@lemmy.world 121 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

This is an outrage, and shady as fuck, and these scammers need to be hunted down to face justice.

If you're a MAGA faithful who has been ripped off by these charlatans, I have some sophisticated tracking software that uses quantum AI to uncover scam tracks. Just send me a private message with your credit card number, expiry date, and the three numbers on the back, and I will take care of things.

Send me a DM with your banking info, and I'll subscribe you to my Never Get Had in the First Half cyber protection service.

Which is also quantum.

[-] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 1 points 6 days ago

Why is it also a soda? Like I ain't complaining but naming something quantum is like naming it baja blast.

Weird roleplay aside baja blast is 100 percent IRL nuka cola quantum.

[-] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 4 points 1 week ago

Oh well if it's very smol

[-] SCmSTR 4 points 1 week ago

Is it modern?

[-] jmsy@lemmy.world 34 points 1 week ago

I wish I had thought of that

A pro-MAGA website that urged supporters to fund a database unmasking Charlie Kirk critics took tens of thousands in crypto—then vanished, infuriating donors.

It's technically a crime, but somehow I don't feel sorry for the victims.

[-] Sunflier@lemmy.world 22 points 1 week ago

A fool and their money are soon parted

[-] Sibshops@lemmy.myserv.one 20 points 1 week ago

Imagine caring so much about a podbro.

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

IKR? That's what boggles the mind. I best most wingers, even some of the terminally online, didn't know or GAF about this guy before he got shot. And now they are all butthurt about a dude they didn't even know before...

As I've said before, when he got shot, I cannot count how many times someone in my life asked, "Charlie who?" or later said they had no idea who he even was....he had 3.8 million followers, which sounds like a lot, but many of those could be bots (there are entire systems to get "followers" that you can buy in various places). We have no idea if those numbers reflect actual people and that's worldwide.

2x that number showed up to No Kings last weekend. That's real people, in person and in one country. For the people carrying this weird torch for some Nazi influencer....someone needs to sit them down and tell them to stop trying to make "Kirk" happen. They can make statues and name streets after him, but seriously? No one is really going to remember much about this guy....

[-] Sibshops@lemmy.myserv.one 2 points 6 days ago

Totally agree. As a comparsion, I would say he's close in popularity to Hasan Piker on the left who has 3 million followers.

[-] slaneesh_is_right@lemmy.org 16 points 1 week ago

I have a hyper intelligent A.I tracking software to find these swindlers. If you wanna sighn up, it's only 100 dollars.

[-] LillyPip@lemmy.ca 15 points 1 week ago

Wait – a right-wing org used their ideology to fleece people?!?

I am shocked.

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago

Fuck, most normal Americans who are presented with things that Kirk has actually said would be "critics".

You all know about the Salem witch trials right. ? (This is relevant, I promise).

So I always figured if I had been accused of witch craft, firstly I would admit it immediately, cause they would just torture me until I did, so may as well spare myself having my fingernails pulled off or whatever it is they would do.

But I figured I'd take down as many as I could.

First I'd give them this grand salacious spicy story of doing it with the devil in the woods. First I'd mention one of the other gals who has already been convicted of being a witch (to give me some credibility). She was definitely there.

But then.. I'd start mentioning some other women.

Wives. Daughters. Of the clergy. The women who were pushing for my arrest. I'd say we had a Satan orgy.

Might throw in some details about her nipples or pubic hair that would likely be true. But purely a guess. Just to prove I had seen her naked.

If I knew of any birth marks or something I'd def use that.

As my story grew I would add more and more names. The story would be so suspenseful. So much detail. It would have to be true.

And that's how I'd take the whole lot of them down with me.

Why do I share this historic revenge fantasy with you all.?

Why because we could apply it to any modern situation with the gop crackdown on dissenters and antifa.

They want to come after us. Interrogate us.

Give them likely credible accomplices who are already flagged. But then start leaking in their own.

Causing suspicion. Causing doubt. Paranoia.

Take them all down with you.

Admit you were doing whatever they accused you of. But insist you have accomplices from their side. Have somethinh prepared a head of time to look credible. Like dates they were in specific locations and such.

I feel like I have to explain myself a bit because this all sounds rather dark.

-Im actually a really friendly pleasant person most of the time. but I have a very strong aversion to injustice (especially to vulnerable people,) and I typically support vigilantes (when the system fails them).

Idk. When I was a kid learning about the Salem witch trials and Anne Frank. I thought. What could these women had done differently to at least take the bad guys out on their way out?

If I recall. Part of the reason the witch hunting stopped was because women would do as I suggested. They started naming high ranking women as collaborators and even some of the men.

Start a website. Name obvious leftest who are anti Kirk.

But then start leaking in their own members.

Definitely ask for donations.

[-] Captainvaqina@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago

Bravo. But you would have to add in the grifter donations at the end, most definitely.

Otherwise they would sniff it out.

[-] daannii@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Yes. And we could donate to food banks or something.

Also the best way to fake an affiliation is to copy a real one and change a few things.

It looks legit if it was from a legit source. (I'm not going to say why I know this works but it works very well if you do it the way I instruct).

Copy paragraphs from proud boys and heritage foundation sites. They all plagiarize so no shame in us doing it to them. Change out some images. Keep to the same styles on the maga affiliation websites. They have styles and trends. Follow them.

When you try to fake an identity , it's often influenced by your stereotypes you hold about that group. And it will show. It's why under cover cops can so easily be spotted by some of us.

They look like 40 year old men trying to "look cool" based on what they think drug culture thinks is cool. It's rather amusing and they stick out to anyone who can recognize them.

But we have to be concerned about something similar.

I don't think most maga are smart enough to recognize fake websites. Like .. they watch fox.
They seem highly gullible. But best to not underestimate them. One smarter dude pointing out some inconsistencies could end the ruse and then they will be on high alert.

[-] Pat_Riot@lemmy.today 7 points 1 week ago

Well, MAGA are a bunch of fuckin rubes. Sounds like a good time to be a carnie.

I swear, conservatives are NEVER going to stop taking massive Ls.

When you control the media, you have an endless amounts of ignorant or gullible people to swindle.

You tell 300 million people that a man is a gang member, a criminal, a terrible person and they are the cause of the problems around you. They are the reason you see murders on the news everyday.

You don't need evidence, you just say it. Then Noem says it, then some random racist cherry picks incidents to show as evidence. Fox focuses all their interviews around pointing blame at them without usually actually saying it directly. Newsmax repeats it. CBS, NBC, CNN all call them alleged criminals.

So 300 million people keep hearing and seeing it and some start to repeat it. Still without any actual evidence. And you are giving people an easy way out. My problems aren't my own, the people who are around me are struggling because *checks notes.. the people who were causing less crime, oops can't say that. The people who are different than me, are causing it. Some of them even have their own cultures or languages that I don't understand! It must be their fault. It wasn't like this when people grew up in (pulls out rose tinted glasses and makes excuses for everything bad that happened during those times).

Life only gets worse as wealth becomes scarce. Wealth becomes scarce for the majority when it gets hoarded by the few.

Why did life appear to get better for a number of years, what was the great depression, maybe charts like these show something...

It should be 90% of the population voting to spread the wealth. Yet with the media controlled by the wealthy, we are easier to manipulate
