Come for the memes, stay for the humans behind them

Ironically, this is a pro AI instance, so unfortunately not all memes have humans behind them

[-] db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

There's always a human behind them, even if they're using a GenAI instead of Photoshop. Not to mention that we have a rule about marking GenAI posts.

[-] thethunderwolf@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 2 days ago

Good rule, but I don't see it in the instance description, Golden Rules, or Anarchist Code of Conduct, where can I find it?
Or am I just blind

Hey man... I just get bored sometimes. What can I say?

Edit: This is the source for the musical backing track. Audioknap on Pixabay.

Edit 2: Also just gonna take this chance to point anyone towards a new community I made for Trek news and Discussion if anyone so wishes

that was fun, stamets you sound cool

[-] Stamets@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 days ago

I try my best <3

Considering your username, you might find this interesting. I grew up in an area with a ton of Humpback whales and used to go kayaking around them. They're so fuckin' cool.

[-] PolarKraken@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Stamets, you're cool and I was stoked when I saw you move here for your home instance. This is real well done!

My only constructive feedback is that I found the music to sonically obscure the voice-over. Though full disclosure, I seem to have some minor processing disorder related to pulling spoken voices out of background noise, so might just be me.

[-] Stamets@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Thanks <3

Maybe this version will work a little bit better? Different song and the audio is balanced a bit differently. Was the first version. I had a second too which I ended up hating after putting it together. I like my funk music too much.

[-] PolarKraken@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 2 days ago

Oh nice, yeah this was a lot easier. Plus I mean, yazz flute...

[-] Stamets@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 2 days ago

Yeah, after listening to both together I really see your point. I messed up the audio balancing on the posted one a little bit and it's way harder to distinguish the two. Sorry about that <3

I've gotta go listen to some more funk music now though.

[-] PolarKraken@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 days ago

No sweat! Audio mixing is not trivial, it came out great.

How many years did you spend as the host of a morning radio show? That's too damn practiced, I was waiting for the "Only on WKZ 105.9, your only home for rock!"

[-] Stamets@lemmy.dbzer0.com 19 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Exactly zero lol but thank you <3 I did always want to be on the radio as a kid.

I got bored again

[-] kernelle@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 4 days ago

As a European who's been to the US, this is what all stations sounded like. Bonus points if you add sharp and needlessly excessive sound effects.

[-] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

car crash

fart noise

blaring klaxon

35 pounds of glass breaking

... in basically in any order or context, to open, close or punctuate any message.

Holy shit, thats... thats some of the best marketing/writing/production value that I've heard for literally anything, in probably a decade.

Damn.

Well, I mean... I... also block ads so religiously I've considered whether or not I could form an actual, formally US recognized religion based on the idea, but still.

The only possible thing I could offer to maybe add is just a sign off 'it really whips the llama's ass', ... not sure if thats still or ever was trademarked, also not sure if I care.

Either way, damn good work!

[-] Stamets@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Fuck, how embarassing does it have to be for most radio commercials to be matched by a dude with audacity, royalty free music and (I'm not kidding) 28 minutes worth of time between writing/recording/editing?

[-] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Oh, immensely embarassing.

Problem of course is most US DJs seem to literally lack both self-awareness and also the capacity to experience shame, so...

...it kind of horseshoes around back to them just thinking you're the stupid one actually, because you don't have as many listeners or know someone personally that they do.

Now that I think of it, radio djs and most talkshows are literally prime candidates for replacing with AI.

And oh holy fuck do not even get me started on how sports commentators are the masters of filling time with literally meaningless babble, they're masters of pathos and ethos, but almost nothing they say bares any resemblance to a logically evaluatable claim.

But yeah, I too can just drop into a 'golden radio voice' at the flick of a switch, figured out how to do it basically right after my vocal cords stopped changing from puberty... but there's no point other than using it to make a joke, basically?

Autism = tonal analysis capability + practice = voice actor, I guess?

A Wesley Willis sign-off fits right in here, hell yeah! Legend.

[-] cerebralhawks@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 3 days ago

That was actually fun to listen to. I like the vibe.

I think we need to make the different approach a bit friendlier though. Like on Reddit you start with default communities, you add ones you like, you remove ones you don't, and /all is trash. On Lemmy, I browse /all, and I block what I don't like. It's not bad to block. It just means you never wanna see it. We don't all want to see the same things. I, for one, don't care for memes. I don't think they shouldn't exist, I just... don't get anything out of them. So I block meme communities. It's nothing against the people though. I enjoy communities where people say more and post fewer images.

[-] CosmicTurtle0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 4 days ago

Wait, who's voice is this? @stamets or @db0?

Either way, it's the first ad I would allow.

[-] Stamets@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 3 days ago

Mine. Hellooooo

[-] floquant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 4 days ago

This is great. Unironically the first "ad" that made me say "fuck yeah!" in my life

[-] eugenevdebs@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 4 days ago

This is awesome! I'm happy to have a fun little ad.
