Many of the core of the arguments boil down to “I don’t believe a woman could murder a strong and combat-trained man.” Regardless of their justifications, I think it’s pretty clear the difference that they’re upset about is that this time the main character is a woman, played by a nonbinary actor.
I see no reason to think they have any clue at all the voice actress is NB. Just that women can't be badass

Back in the summer of 2020, during the first year of COVID lockdowns, two first-party PlayStation games were released back-to-back, just a month apart: Ghost of Tsushima and The Last of Us: Part 2. Upon release, Ghost of Tsushima was pretty beloved by a specific right-wing culture-war gamer crowd, who placed it on a pedestal specifically as a way to directly attack The Last of Us: Part 2.
Ha! I was literally going to comment this. They never "loved" GOT, they just used it to attack Naughty Dog.
I'm a huge fan of TLOU, so that whole campaign completely soured GOT for me, even though the studio never struck me as being on board with the hate. I hope Yotei gets ported to PC eventually, because it sounds more interesting.

RMVP wants to control media. Gamergate wanted to end collusion. The tactics are similar, the goals are not.

This also applies to other forms of authoritarianism and authoritarian or criminal actions by liberal or leftist governments.
