Made it my default today. Makes the internet actually usable with a few add-ons some brilliant people have made, for free.

I like how the "don't dead, open inside" at the end just works.

[-] Ozzy@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 year ago

My friends who don't use chrome like =)

[-] StalksEveryone@futurology.today 2 points 1 year ago

too bad they haven’t flocked from reddit yet

[-] JoShmoe@ani.social 36 points 1 year ago

Somehow saying Firefox makes everyone quiet and nervous wherever I go.

[-] CreeperODeath@lemmy.world 24 points 1 year ago

I actually recently switched from brave to Firefox

It's going pretty nice so far Plus I love the customization open source stuff always has

[-] SchizoDenji@lemm.ee 8 points 1 year ago

Look up Firefox CSS customizations. It's amazing how much you can tailor.

[-] SupraMario@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I thought brave ended up having privacy issues? Is this no longer the case? I just recently switched to ff after being a chrome user for so long (went from FF to chrome long ago)

[-] ReakDuck@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Brave is like Apple. Privacy is just a marketing tactic.

[-] SupraMario@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Lol so what I read was correct lol

[-] bloddclaw@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago

FF isn't private out the box either.

[-] masterofn001@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 year ago

People believe what they want.

But, you are correct.

Not necessarily because FF is bad, but because the internet and web standards are often stupid and not privacy friendly.

Webrtc? Great! (But, by default, it leaks your real IP address even with a VPN). WebGL, web GPU, etc. Sketchy not privacy friendly standards

But, again. At least FF allows obfuscation either by fingerprint blocking or masking or other config settings. But.. it is tedious. And they change flags and flag names constantly.

FF at least allows you to mod it so you can use it without leaks.

What irks me is all the telemetry. And this new deal they call fog.

And the impossible to get rid of add-ons I never asked for. No, I don't want screenshots built in. Nor amazon, or google, or eBay, or Normandy or opt out studies

After all the tweaks I make manually (arkenfox user.js is nice, too) it ends up well over a hundred settings to get what I want functionality and privacy wise.

And, yet, it is still the absolute best of the browsers.

(Tor, mull, and librefox as well)

[-] henfredemars@infosec.pub 24 points 1 year ago

I always install Firefox on all the work computer kiosks.

I'm doing my part one page visit at a time.

[-] Sanctus@lemmy.world 20 points 1 year ago

Its so much better, especially if you aren't already lost in Google's sauce.

[-] GodsKillerKirb@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I'm an Android user, but luckily I never really got lost in google's sauce.

I'm pretty sure I used Chrome early on in my Android days but not for very long.

Currently, and for the foreseeable future, my primary browser on Android is Firefox Nightly and I do run firefox on all my computers (I do use Linux).

[-] Promethilaus@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

Nowadays i use cromite on android and firefox on desktop

Saw my first youtube ad in years on pc today... Dark times.

[-] EveryMuffinIsNowEncrypted 13 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

What happened?

And it's okay. You can cry on my shoulder. Come 'ere. It's gonna be alright...

[-] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Downloaded a new chrome ad blocker extension and all was well again. I know I'm gonna have to switch eventually, just putting it off...

[-] Sanctus@lemmy.world 17 points 1 year ago

Yikes, it takes about five minutes. Just do it. You can import everything. The themes are so much better.

[-] ianhclark510 10 points 1 year ago

Do you remember when Quantum came out and broke a ton of addon compatibility? Pepperidge Farm remembers

[-] technicalogical@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

It got better, those were dark days though...

[-] Black_Gulaman@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 year ago

Didn't upgrade till my extensions were ported to the new system. That left me vulnerable for a while (security wise)

[-] Honytawk@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

You mean the amazing update that pulled Firefox into the modern age and made it like 10 times faster? Which made it a viable option against the other browsers?

Having to rewrite a couple of addons really shouldn't be an issue. They can't keep all compatibility for the rest of time.

[-] boratul@lemmy.ml 10 points 1 year ago

there are also those annoying nerds who think they're cool cause they use opera GX that make me cringe so badly...

[-] Willy@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 year ago

as someone who used firefox for the last 20 years or more, I just switched to edge about 6 months ago and I've been liking it.

[-] Jivebunny@lemmy.world 18 points 1 year ago

Sir you have entered FOSS space, please state your intents

[-] octo@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago

Just as a note: edge can be hardened to a point (clear almost all data on closing) where it's better than Firefox if you are interested in security over privacy or ease of use. If you are already bound to windows, installing Firefox offers marginal privacy in exchange for more attack surface.

[-] improvisedbuttplug@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

But why even bother? If you’re privacy conscious and still insist on a chromium based browser just use Brave.

Use things that respect your privacy by default. Otherwise you have to be in the habit of actively opting out whenever new updates or features are added and anybody who would be that diligent about it is probably already using Firefox or Brave anyway.

Can you guys just allow casual people to interact with this website? Holy shit.

Or as I have recently taken to calling it Microsoft plus Chrome.
Do two negatives make a positive? Clearly not. Checkmate matheists.

[-] Willy@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 year ago

oh I know. with extra Microsoft stuff. I switched to bing too!

[-] JokeDeity@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

What the actual fuck? This a troll account?

[-] Willy@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago

no sir. it started with work and trying out bing cause of work with msft. then it expanded with their rewards for searches and paying for gamepass that way. then I got invited to their early release of the chatgpt equivalent integration. it's just kind of grown.

[-] improvisedbuttplug@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Edge is entirely as privacy violating as chrome

[-] Black_Gulaman@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 1 year ago

It's also chrome, just working for another company.

[-] beatle@aussie.zone 7 points 1 year ago

Nothing better than Google and Microsoft sniffing your traffic.

[-] darcy@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 year ago
[-] masterofn001@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 year ago

Or mull - made by mullvad, the VPN guys. It has all the tor privacy without the tor network and gets updates because, unlike tor, it's not based on the ESR.

[-] doctorcrimson@lemmy.today 3 points 1 year ago

A while back firefox removed some of the features that let me manually handle the cookies I allow and block. It's not great but I'll be using Opera for a while.

[-] autumnrivers@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago

My friends have gotten so used to me talking about Firefox that whenever they complain about Chrome they immediately say "Don't" when I start typing

[-] ofek256@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago

Vouch for Waterfox tbh, really great

[-] Heldenhirn@feddit.de 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Fight me but I like how Chrome looks and feels. I also have zero issues with its functionality. Many people here are trying to paint it as if it's a bad browser but the billions using it tell a different story. The issue with chrome isn't chrome itself but the company behind it.

Will I switch if they start blocking AdBlock? Yes, but only because of this.
