"Could have been an email," another general said

Generals who were flown from across the world to attend the meeting with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Tuesday said there was no point in doing it, with one calling it a "waste of money."

"More like a press conference than briefing the generals," another attendee told Politico. "Could have been an email." A third called it a "total waste of money."

Sounds like government waste, fraud and abuse to me!

What do you want him to spend our hard earned tax dollars on, a gold ballroom?

Has anyone checked Fort Knox???

[-] DarkDarkHouse@lemmy.sdf.org 85 points 2 days ago

Trump has expressed concern about someone stealing the Fort Knox stockpile. That's how you know he plans to steal it.

Hegseth trying a "I say jump, you say how high" routine and IMO failing.

Let's also remember that Trump hates the military and probably revels in the idea of cowing generals.

I thought liz truss could not be outdone in terms of cringe, but i think hegseth might have done it. By god, he might have done it. USA, USA, USA!!

This could have been an email.

[-] hitmyspot@aussie.zone 23 points 2 days ago

Or a signal chat, shared in the media.

[-] Adderbox76@lemmy.ca 11 points 2 days ago

Or preferably a suicide note.

[-] kopasz7@sh.itjust.works 12 points 2 days ago

A drunk text or a butt dial!

[-] Almacca@aussie.zone 24 points 2 days ago

Better yet, it could have not happened at all.

“Anonymous generals,” right? Fucking cowards.

[-] redwattlebird@lemmings.world 11 points 2 days ago

Let's say they do the "brave" thing by naming themselves. They're thrown out with their middle fingers up, and replaced by an inexperienced sycophant.

That sycophant is now in charge for hundreds if not thousands of other individuals and their lives.

It's simply not worth their pride to risk the lives of these people under their command.

I think withholding their identities is a smart, if not expected, move.

If they voiced discent now they'd be fired on the spot and replaced with Trump sychopants . Let us hope men and women of honor hold to their oath if the moment comes when they must make a critical choice between Trump and the Constitution.

[-] NuXCOM_90Percent@lemmy.zip 21 points 3 days ago

The moment came back in 2021.

They chose to sit on their hands and see if trump would win.

[-] WizardofFrobozz@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 days ago

That moment came in the GWB era.

[-] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 1 points 2 days ago

There was never a better opportunity than when they were all in the room with him. He's been shitting on the constitution since he got into office. We are well past the point where it's appropriate to do something about it.

[-] plyth@feddit.org 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

That must have been the reason for the meeting. The leaders had the opportunity to kill him and they didn't. That tells every soldier to accept whatever is coming.

[-] spongebue@lemmy.world 47 points 3 days ago

I mean, I would rather have people with that kind of opinion (who at least go to the press anonymously) in that kind of position than someone who says "oh yes daddy, shave my beard!"

Trump absolutely would fire them on the spot over that, if he knew who it was. And we'd immediately see someone who smells like aftershave in their place

[-] WizardofFrobozz@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 days ago

Otherwise decent people can still be cowards. That’s why everyone with good intentions isn’t labeled a hero.

[-] spongebue@lemmy.world 18 points 2 days ago

It sounds like a weird move, but if bravery immediately removes you from the equation, cowardice could put you in a position to one day be a hero.

[-] WizardofFrobozz@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 days ago

This would be great if there was any indication at all this was going to happen. Meanwhile, the US is sitting on a few dozen shitbags with the knowhow and the information to stop this who are doing fuck all- where is Vindman, Brown, McMaster, Esper, Mattis, Maguire, Kruse, Plummer….?

These clowns have not earned the benefit of the doubt.

[-] spongebue@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

if there was any indication at all this was going to happen.

That's an even more certain way to get thrown out of the building

[-] DeathByBigSad@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 days ago

What's your name buddy? Where do you live?

[-] WizardofFrobozz@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago
