Same with the senate voting to block the release of the Epstein files being. The media is glossing over that hard too

[-] grue@lemmy.world 35 points 4 days ago

Senate Republicans, you mean. Every single Democrat voted in favor of releasing the files. All but two Republicans voted to defend child rapists.

I have faith in peoples ability to use context clues. Then I don’t have to type every comment out as if I’m hitting variables for a program.

[-] Goldmage263@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 days ago

It also left a great opportunity for someone else to comment and fill in the thinking for other readers. 🫠

[-] Marshezezz 1 points 4 days ago

Then fill in the rest in your own post and I’m going stick with commenting how I comment. If you can’t use context clues on what I typed then there are bigger issues going on at hand there.

[-] wewbull@feddit.uk 1 points 4 days ago

Jeez. They did "fill in the rest in [their] own post". It was the reply to your post. Replies don't always mean disagreement. They can build on the point you're making for the benefit of others.

You should welcome that. You're acting like a dog barking at anyone that goes past.

[-] Marshezezz 1 points 4 days ago

A different user did that, the person I replied to didn’t add much whatsoever.

Israel assassinated the prime minister of Yemen?

[-] wewbull@feddit.uk 17 points 4 days ago

It's complex in that Yemen is a divided country and they killed the PM of the government that governs the Houthi controlled part of Yemen.

Internationally he would probably be labelled "The leader of the Houthis" because the Houthi government isn't recognised by most. Conveniently that sounds much more like a terrorist leader.

.. or the president wanting to call for flying flags at half mast for a youtube personality ... rather than for the death of one of the highest state officials in the country (in ~~Michigan~~ Minnesota Melissa Hortman), including her husband and the attempted killing of a senator and his wife ... an event that should have been treated as a major violent political event but was downplayed for the mere fact that it was political opponents.

edit: mentioned wrong state Minnesota - not Michigan

[-] Stovetop@lemmy.world 12 points 4 days ago

in Michigan

Just to clarify, this was in Minnesota, not Michigan.

[-] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 7 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

thanks for the correction - edited my comment to make the change

[-] iAmTheTot@sh.itjust.works 21 points 4 days ago

Or a school shooting within their own country. That's how normal those are.

[-] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 3 days ago

this is the vastly more important thing IMO, americans aren't going to care about 99.99999999999% of things happening outside the country, but they should damn well give a fuck about school shootings no matter what.

[-] Tabula_stercore@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago

Worse. With all my filters trying to block the underdeveloped country, my feed is still filled to the brim with this horseshit of a news item.. Thanks OP for providing some real news, and those in the comments with links to the articles

My own, completely unfounded, conspiracy theory is that the assassination of Charlie Kirk was to distract the US from yesterday’s Russian drone attack on a NATO ally.

[-] BrainInABox@lemmy.ml 7 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Yeah sure. Not from the USA openly supporting Israel in attacking yet another country in support of their Holocaust. It has to be to distract from drones flying over Poland.

Nothing has enabled the right wing to do whatever they like more than the liberal hyper-fixation on Russia.

[-] thatKamGuy@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 days ago

Conspiracy theories don’t necessarily need to make logical sense, they just need to feel true.

[-] BrainInABox@lemmy.ml 5 points 4 days ago

Yes, and to a liberal it will always "feel" true if it some how ties everything back to Russia.

[-] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml 5 points 4 days ago

The Russian drones were cardboard decoy drones. The propaganda must go real hard if you think that's starting ww3.

[-] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 8 points 4 days ago

I haven’t seen the news reporting that. Is that reporting in another language or something?

[-] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml 4 points 4 days ago
[-] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 days ago

So, not cardboard and not “decoys”. Just cheap stuff because RU is broke.

[-] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml 3 points 3 days ago

No literal cardboard and foam.

[-] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 days ago

I should have been more clear that I object to these being called “decoys” because they are clearly functioning drones, just made out of junk.

[-] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 days ago

All except possibly one of them had no explosives on board.

[-] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 days ago

Which means they are capable of carrying explosives and that couldn’t have been known if they were or weren’t before being shot down. It’s possible I don’t know the technical definition of “decoy” but that sure doesn’t fit the description to me from a layman’s understanding.

[-] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml 3 points 3 days ago

Decoy means they are designed to waste Ukrainian anti air rockets and munitions by having them believe they are explosive drones. It's literally what a decoy drone is. That is why they are shaped similar to the Shahed so people cannot tell the difference from afar.

[-] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Perhaps I’m conflating “decoy” and “dummy”. But if one of the drones had real, actual explosives in it I don’t see how it’s a waste of resources to defend yourself from them.

Or am I misunderstanding what you mean when you say there were explosives found. Is the point that these drones, even if carrying explosives, we’re not actually capable of detonation?

[-] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

I read rumors one single drone allegedly held a small amount of explosives (like 4pounds/2kg). I'm not sure if this was actually confirmed.

Actual Shaheds can carry 100pounds/50kg of explosives.

These Gerbera drones are not a more cost effective way of delivering explosives beacuse they also require a motor and other hardware. They are meant to deplete air defenses.

[-] thatKamGuy@sh.itjust.works 9 points 4 days ago

Cardboard managed to do this to a house, huh?

Even Belarus has claimed that these drones were bound for Ukraine, but apparently had their radar navigation jammed.

Look around you, just between Russian and Israeli actions alone, we are quickly descending into a global conflict already.

My entire conspiracy theory is that Charlie Kirk was shot in order to focus US attention fixed on internal issues, in order for their global soft power to continue to crumble while the rest of the world descends into madness.

It’s in the same vein as the DNC emails leaking straight after Trump’s “Grab them by the pussy” tape was released, completely taking over the news cycle.

If I had a nickel every time something politically expedient happened to derail the press, I’d have two nickels - which isn’t much, but it’s strange that it’s happened twice to the same guy.

[-] Nasan@sopuli.xyz 13 points 4 days ago

The vast majority of people feeling attacked by the shooting probably can't point to Yemen on a map.

[-] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 8 points 4 days ago

What % of Americans can spell Yemen and point it on a map?

[-] PyroNeurosis 3 points 3 days ago

Are we shitting on ignorance or identifying a media focus on material priorities relevant to Americans?

[-] Saffire@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 days ago

Why not both?

[-] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago

White People News do be like that.

[-] arsCynic@lemmy.ml 2 points 4 days ago

Well, the video probably helped…

[-] ArmchairAce1944@discuss.online 1 points 3 days ago

This is they need to cover up their shit. He was a pawn they willingly sacrificed to that end.
