First, let me apologize if there is a better way to write the mods directly. I am relatively new to Lemmy and while I saw the modlog banner, it doesn't lead to a message option.

I am wondering how strict the rule of "Limit Self-promotions" is in regards to what defines an active member. I would love to invite a ttrpg creator to this community both to plug their game (kickstarter) and to maybe create a Q&A or something similar at the same time. They do share a lot of helpful information regarding rule design, world building, play testing and publishing on youtube and I am sure this community could profit from that as well.

However, obviously I wouldn't want to invite someone just to get them banned for not being an active member before.

TL;DR: Can you self promote without previously being an active member if the self promotion includes a significant contribution to the community for example by discussing topics of game design, publishing etc. with the community?

There's a few easy solutions, I feel. One is for the ttrpg creator to come here and be active, thus making them an active user allowed to promote themself once a week. A second is for YOU to promote their stuff so it's not self-promotion, then invite them to do the Q&A in the comments or something.

Not a mod, but IMO if they actively engage with the community in discussing their product (rather than just a linkdump and go), and if it's not super frequent, I feel it should be ok.

Yea, that totally makes sense. I will wait a little bit longer to maybe get approval of a mod. In general I think it would be a great way to get lemmy out there a bit more and to draw rpg developers to reddit. The developer I have in mind is very well connected and had some - let's say interesting - experiences with reddit hence I thought it would be the ideal moment to suggest to him to check out lemmy.

i think @sirblastalot@ttrpg.network is the only /c/rpg mod really active, so tagging him for any input on the community view...
