I graduated 2023, applied my heart out, and nobody will give me the time of day because I have no experience. Now everyone is getting laid off.

I'm teacher on a gaming Dev school. Gaming industry has always been very cyclic. (Have a look to 1983 crack).

Best you can do is find whatever job and create games as side projects. Then, you'll be ready in a year or two when the market will be better.

It's important that you do release some game, and not only have half started prototype. And please, don't create yet another temple runner clone 😆

Thanks for the feedback. This is what my own teachers have said as well. My simple ideas tend to grow into complex ideas, and the game never gets finished. However, game jams force me to stay tiny and lock in a small scope.

Are you able to throw together a simple game and list it on Steam, Gog, Apple’s or Google’s App Store? It wouldn’t be experience with a company, but it would be work you can showcase.

You might even make a few bucks off of it.

Or get involved in an open source project or two?

Yes and no. I have games on steam that I contributed to, but I haven't come up with a good simple game I can solo, that is fun, and that is unique.

Here’s a simple game I’ve had kicking around in my head for a few years that you’re free to use.

Head to head quick draw game. You load your revolver with words that you type. When the draw happens you have to quickly and correctly type your word to shoot. Then have to type the word that your opponent shot at you. Rinse and repeat.

I don’t think it would be difficult to get up and going as a project and I know I would waste time on it.
