While a cool photo, the distance that wheel is from the car would suggest it's not the moment of impact.

If you want to be pedantic, the moment of impact wouldn’t show any visible damage on the car yet.

How much do AM get fined for that wheel being loose?

[-] Tagger@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

I feel like the repair of the car is probably fine enough.

I don’t think they get in trouble for the wreck being so violent it broke the chain, you’re never going to be able to enforce a chain never breaks rule because a non-breaking chain doesn’t exist

I watched the quali delayed and when I saw how long the session lasted (1h47m was the broadcast) I knew someone had crashed and I immediately thought of Stroll. While not quite as bad as Latifi or Mazespin, the guy is out of his depth in F1.

While Lance is not an elite driver, I dont think it's fair to say someone who has had 3 podium finishes in F1 and who is currently in ninth place in the drivers standings is out of his depth. He's a middle of the pack driver capable of the occasional above average performance.

People want to bag on him because of his dad's money, and that may be a valid justification. Maybe he got chances no one else would. But he worked his way up the ranks from carting to f2 iirc. And like you said, he's podium'd a few times and isn't doing poorly. It's not even close to mazaspin.

He's playing the hand he was dealt. It's shitty to flat dismiss him as a decent f1 driver because his dad's rich--which is always the undercurrent of most criticisms of him.

And let's be fair, there are lots of reasons drivers are driving in f1 outside of pure driving ability. Hulkenberg being back because a sponsor wanted a German driver, Perez had ties to a Mexican billionaire (and access to that market), Danny ric because he's popular and funny, etc. But at the end of the day, you have to perform and Stroll performs better than half the field.

It's ridiculous to suggest "he is out of his depth in F1".

Yes, he clearly isn't doing a good job this year. Lance clearly drove better in the past. But with how hard he was pushing on that lap, there wasnt much he could do against that snap oversteer.

I don't watch F1 anymore, is he as bad as the Maldozer?

[-] therealn000b@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

No - he's a very capable midfielder who deserves his spot on the grid but is never going to win a championship.

[-] Kecessa@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago

Ok, because I'm from Quebec so I had heard about him but never negatively, but odds are there's a bit of patriotism going on with that...

[-] TonyTonyChopper@mander.xyz 2 points 1 year ago

Not too much negative to say. Or positive. He's just there.
