"Brownsburn Community Park LNR is an extensive area of grassland, woodland, and wetland. From an industrial past, the site is now a green oasis for local people and wildlife in urban South Airdrie. [...] In the centre of the park a small remnant peat bog, Gartlea Moss is a haven for drifts of flowering bog asphodel, bog cotton, and cranberries. Some of the wildlife often seen here are common garden birds, buzzards and roe deer. Water vole, a species of mammal which has suffered from long term decline, is also found at Brownsburn. There is fencing around the water vole area to help reduce disturbance to this rare species. The wildflower rich meadows are home to colourful plants such as greater butterfly orchid, common spotted orchid and ragged robin." - North Lanarkshire Council
