Article by 404 Media: The mod repository Nexus Mods removed a mod that allowed bigots to circumvent pronoun selection in the character creator of "Starfield". The bigots then pretended to be very outraged.

Honestly the people seething over pronouns are pathetic.

They are sobbing over… a single button press to choose a pronoun. Its not like theyre forced to choose a pronoun they disagree with. Complete tools.

[-] squirrel 70 points 1 year ago

Personally I am convinced that 99% of that is just performative. They know it's bullshit to get angry about pronouns, but they do it because it generates attention and serves as a anti-LGBT+ dog whistle.

[-] GreenMario@lemm.ee 19 points 1 year ago

Call em SJWs. They are the pink haired raging liberals they fought against for so long. Became the thing they swore to destroy.

[-] squirrel 30 points 1 year ago

They have always been like this. As they say: "It's always projection." The right-wingers assume that other people behave the same way they do, but more often than not people simply don't.

Years ago during GamerGate, it was the same shit: They'd cry about collusion, bribery and worse and when you poked into it, there was nothing to it. It was all conjecture. deliberate misrepresentation of events and fake outrage.

[-] Landrin201@lemmy.ml 13 points 1 year ago

I love the video of the British dude absolutely losing his shit about it, then picking up the controller and continuing to play

Like he screamed and cried for 3 minutes about pronouns then went ahead and kept playing the game he was calling evil and boring

[-] zbyte64 12 points 1 year ago

That's how it starts, first you play videos games, then next you start wearing knee high socks. They should start prepping a funeral for their soon to be dead name.

[-] Bernie_Sandals@lemmy.world 20 points 1 year ago

And yet they're the ones who would almost definitely call trans people weak or another pejorative of that meaning. Yknow, the trans people that face violence and oppression for just existing.

Like fr these are the people who came up with snowflake they're ridiculous.

[-] AlwaysNowNeverNotMe@kbin.social 9 points 1 year ago

They are inherently weaklings. That's why they think being weak is such a shame, because they are so ashamed of it.

They have in many cases been forced to sacrifice parts of themselves to be a "more effective" person, these are also things they hate that they ever had/felt.

The lgbtq+ community spits in the face of that by being proud of traits that are generally reviled. Seeing this enrages the Reich wankers because they were courting a transition or were just I don't know, too into model trains? Or any of a million things that people looking for an excuse to exert superiority over can exploit.

This what they hate the most because they didn't do it, already chose the wrong side and sunk their costs. The idea that that behaviour is even more vile than the immorality it polices has this been dubbed "cancel culture"

[-] LuckingFurker 15 points 1 year ago

Let's not forget they're also getting mad over a role-playing option in a role-playing game, which makes it even more absurd than it already was

[-] Phegan@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

I legitimately wouldn't have noticed it if it wasn't for the triggered snowflakes raging over pronouns.

[-] ilickfrogs@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I saw it when creating my character then completely forgot. Only remembered it was there when the fragile tantrum monkeys started having shitfit meltdowns over it. Fucking sad, literally changes NOTHING in the game.

[-] GreenMario@lemm.ee 5 points 1 year ago

It automatically knew my "fucking pronouns" simply from body type. So I didn't need to press anything.

[-] Thranduil@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I think the mods should be allowed. But yes they are Q.Qing hard over a button press

[-] breadsmasher@lemmy.world 12 points 1 year ago

I think the mods should be allowed

Feel free to setup your own mod hosting I guess.

Good on nexus to routinely stand against bigotry by taking down mods containing it. Every time a game comes out people make mods removing any lgbtqia+ persons or mention and I’ve seen several where they make minority characters white to “remove politics” and nexus slaps them down every time.

Recently in BG3 people made mods to make wyll white within days of game release and nexus took them down

[-] GreenMario@lemm.ee 26 points 1 year ago

Seems like the first mods that come out are the racist mods and the nude mods.

[-] JJROKCZ@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

Since both are normally just swapping the color/visibility on a texture or changing some text they’re relatively easy to do.

[-] Weslee@lemmy.world 22 points 1 year ago

I'm out the loop for this, but I'm wondering if the mods to remove the pride flag from the new spider man game was on nexus?

[-] JJROKCZ@lemmy.world 33 points 1 year ago

It was and they removed it too, same with the mods that make black characters not black in many games

[-] Weslee@lemmy.world 17 points 1 year ago

Oh nice, I'm happy they've been consistent with this stance for awhile then!

[-] MajorHavoc@lemmy.world 21 points 1 year ago

Kudos to Nexus for keeping their garden weeded.

I learned that some people won't talk to me if I have pronouns set in my profile. So now I set pronouns anywhere I can.

It's been glorious.

I would welcome mods to add snowflake-scaring pronouns into more systems.

If th*y can't find something to be outraged about th*y wouldn't have anything at all. Th*m lil snowflakes, if th*y weren't such shit people * would feel sorry for th*m.

(* censored th* pr*n*uns so th*y don't get something to be enraged about from m* reply)

[-] Sotuanduso@lemm.ee 10 points 1 year ago

I don't understand. Like I know that bigots would want to skip pronoun selection, but I don't see how choosing to skip it makes one bigoted.

The article says it's "removing diversity," but if those users aren't going to choose different pronouns anyways, and it's not changing any NPCs, I don't see the issue. Or is it changing the NPCs?

[-] Wizzle 20 points 1 year ago

It's about not providing a platform to people looking to only make a bigoted political statement. This isn't a mod for the game as much as it is a statement about who installs it.

[-] Sotuanduso@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

I guess that makes sense. So then it wouldn't be bigoted if, say, someone made that mod for themselves and didn't upload it, right?

Asking for a friend. (Nah, JK, I don't even play Starfield.)

[-] LeylaaLovee 11 points 1 year ago

This isn't a perfect lineup, but imagine a mod that just removes black people from the game. Making your own addition to the game and all the people are white? That's fine. But going out of your way to remove identities is inherently bigoted. If it's really just a menu prompt, why don't they just say he/him pronouns and play the game?

[-] Sotuanduso@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago

I think the equivalent there would be removing the option to be black from the character creator. Or maybe if it were like a Skyrim mod that prevents you from playing a dark-skinned Nord or light-skinned Redguard, since you could still choose between the two genders, it's just tied to the body.

If they were going and changing pronouns of NPCs, that would line up, but the mod is (presumably) only affecting the player character.

I agree it's silly for a mod to do that (unless the prompt is more in-your-face or hard to go through than I assume it is,) I just don't see how the mod is bigoted, unless we're assuming malicious intent behind posting it.

[-] LeylaaLovee 4 points 1 year ago

You don't make or install a mod like this unless pronouns bother you. Like why would you choose to take being black out of character selection? Why not just select a white character?

[-] Thranduil@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

They are removing diversity by excluding people in their inclusiveness. Now I think the mods are fucking stupid since its not a big deal just pick one and be done with it. But I do think the mod should be allowed to exist

[-] LeylaaLovee 14 points 1 year ago

It can exist. Nexus mods don't owe bigots server bandwidth to host a bigots mod though

[-] FooBarrington@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

Inclusiveness is not a binary choice (include everyone or no one), it's a contract. If you break that contract by excluding others, you shouldn't (and won't) be included.

If I invite 10 friends and one of them starts spouting racist and sexist things against the other 9, the inclusive option is not to let them stay.

[-] Thranduil@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Perhaps you have a point I never considered. Still I do want to let as many as possible join and if someone dont like them they can just ignore them

[-] EatMyPixelDust 9 points 1 year ago

Wow are these people pathetic or what... Making mods to remove LGBTQ+ or black characters from games... From games... not real life... video games.... Just goes to show how fragile they are, they can't even cope with the existence of some fictional characters... These people need some kind of help

[-] SaakoPaahtaa@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

Nexusmods is surprisingly consistent. They remove shit like this but allow for questionable stuff whenever canonically accurate and good in taste. Plus they're actually quite rewarding with their donation points program for creators
