I'm sure that was a factor, but let's not kid ourselves. It wasn't the main reason. The movie was just boring.

Noooo I’m a great actress, one of the best!

Her acting in general unironically looks like AI.

It's like she doesn't actually understand human emotion. I mean she publicly supports genocide and then wonders why everyone hates her so that's probably true.

She’s actually a very average Israeli. Most walk around terrified since childhood and develop sociopathic tendencies. I mean, if the entire ethos of your country is, “the whole world wants to murder you from birth so murder them first” it kind of messes with your long term brain chemistry.

There should be pressure to speak against genocide

She can't even pretend she cares about the genocide, since she can't act

Honestly it probably is.

[-] nothingcorporate@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago

Nah, it's because we saw the trailer.

Nationalistic / Jingoistic pride. Comes from a state that has compulsory service. No doubt it affects your view on a country if you serve in its military.

[-] Ledivin@lemmy.world 36 points 1 day ago

I'm sure it did have an effect on the first screenings, actually. She's probably right.

The movie still would have tanked, though, because of the dogshit writing and Gal's complete lack of acting ability.

[-] SeductiveTortoise@piefed.social 10 points 1 day ago

The whatever kind of drama afterwards didn't help as well. Not everything is misogynistic just because a woman leads a clusterfuck. Maybe it tanked because it was a clusterfuck, not because all men bad.

[-] Ilovethebomb@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 day ago

Star Wars had the same problem.

Undoubtedly there was some mysogyny behind some of the criticism, but ultimately they just weren't good movies.

She's Israeli, ofc she supports genocidal mass murder of civilians

[-] kkj@lemmy.dbzer0.com 15 points 1 day ago

There are Israelis going to prison for refusing to join the IDF.

As a wise purple cat once said, "I see now that the circumstances of one's birth are irrelevant. It is what you do with the gift of life that determines who you are."

Gadot is in favor of the genocide because she's a terrible person. She wasn't doomed from the start by her country of origin; her opinions are within her control.

[-] unconsequential@slrpnk.net 2 points 1 day ago

You misinterpret the reason they’re refusing service. But I agree. They are all accountable for their genocidal hate.

"We did 20 takes, and THAT was the best one"

[-] disisdeguey@expressional.social 21 points 1 day ago

@sabreW4K3 Or maybe no one wants to watch a pro genocider Zionist on screen and boycott that movie for good.

[-] npdean@lemmy.today 19 points 1 day ago

Sure, had nothing to do with the dogshit acting and poor story

[-] Bluefalcon@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 1 day ago

I thought it was due to snow white not being white? That is all news and articles said.

[-] Faydaikin@beehaw.org 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Not that I give a shit about Gal Gadot, but when it comes to all the comments about supporting genocide, I sincerely hope you all hold yourselves and your countries to the same standard.

The atrocities that are perpetrated on this god-forsaken planet on a daily basis is sickening and focusing on fucking celebrities, as if they have any say in global politics, is by far one of the least helpful things you can do.
