I put "Reddit employee" in quotation marks because they're giving the vibe that they're praising that website so much.

I’ve found lemmy to be one of the more civil places to go online anymore. I don’t know what this guy is bitching about.

[-] fluffykittycat@slrpnk.net 2 points 15 hours ago

It's as polite as early 2010's reddit was. Some assholes but that's just GIFT we fell from the garden of Eden in September '93 what can ya do. But not the turbo acceleration nasty of torment nexus corpotrash

[-] Dis32@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

He probably did join a community/instance that are more "on the mean side". I just hope Lemmy being one of the more civil social media out there lasts long lol.

[-] muusemuuse@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 days ago

Photons. If it gets popular enough the established platforms will sabotage it. Just enjoy it while you can.

[-] Gladaed@feddit.org 5 points 2 days ago

Framing them as an employee is bad faith. And misleading.

[-] tacosanonymous@mander.xyz 48 points 5 days ago

Welcome to the online world, kid.

Also, I’m pretty sure lemme skews much older than 12. It's 40+ year olds calling you names.

The only real problem with lemme is that it's not big enough to replace most niche communities on larger platforms. If I have a specific question about a hobby, video game, or whatever, I’m not using lemme. I hope to someday.

[-] ImplyingImplications@lemmy.ca 15 points 4 days ago

It's 40+ year olds calling you names.

That always makes it a bit worse. When I see ignorant comments on other sites, I usually tell myself it might be made by an edgy teenager. Can't do that on Lemmy. That's a grown adult praising North Korea...

[-] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 7 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

That’s a grown adult praising North Korea…

And I'm an even growner adult calling that one names!

Seriously though, you can never be 100% sure. And I'm trying not to be ageist - even to myself.

[-] WoodScientist@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 days ago

I mean, North Korea itself is literally run by grown adults.

Ok, I’m gonna be real with you for a moment. You guys are some of the most wholesome, respectful and emotionally intelligent people I have ever seen online.

Yes, every now and then someone writes something edgy. I am not calling anyone in particular out. I am guilty of this too (as you are about to see in a moment).

But calling users here “12 yr old keyboard warriors” while being on Reddit is probably the dumbest take I have ever witnessed. Which says a lot if you consider we are talking about the website that came up with the CumBox.

In the 5-ish years I was on Reddit I got death threats on a regular basis. I got tagged for the suicide bot multiple times a year. I had some very normal Reddit user send me rape threats followed by animal porn.

And Reddit did nothing.

Meanwhile our admins actually do shit that makes this site better instead of just sucking each other off, crying it’s not the real greedy pig boy they’re orally pleasing.

What I am trying to say is: This is obviously rage bait and I fell for it. Which is soooooooo Reddit and it triggers me that it did so all across the internet.

[-] fluffykittycat@slrpnk.net 1 points 15 hours ago

It's all the modern convenience we've come to love with the social environment of 15 years ago when using the internet felt fun

[-] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 5 points 3 days ago

Fuck you, get fucked you fucking piece of shit!

Just kidding. I love you folks. Cheers.

[-] Zaktor@sopuli.xyz 9 points 4 days ago

That suicide bot still being active when it became primarily a tool for harassment is so so stupid.

[-] Dis32@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago

From what I've seen so far during my short time in Lemmy, there doesn't seem to be any fuss about mods (or lack thereof) being power hungry and that's good. And the people I've interacted with so far seemed to be helpful most of the time, whether I've got a gardening related question. You can't escape hostility anywhere so you just gotta have to eat those sometimes but we move on. I've also gotten the "Reddit cares" bot message because I seemed to have commented something about Stardew valley which wasn't even that bad, but I don't remember what I said but I know what I said wasn't bad to incur such a bot sent my way lol. Glad you (and I) found this place and hope to use this for years to come and hopefully no Lemmy gatekeepers tells us we can't be here 👋🏽

[-] MotoAsh@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

Oh there has been some, but 99% of the time it's someone clearly either mentally (or literally) 10 years old whining about their esgy trolling/dumbass ignorance being removed ... or the tanky admins/mods from .ml banning opinions and news they don't like.

It’s the internet. Some people are helpful and some people are dicks. It’s just the way it is.

[-] Dis32@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

Clearly not for this guy, thinks that Lemmy is the only one out there that is toxic in their opinion 😂

[-] brucethemoose@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

I dunno how this is real. I keep getting shadowbanned on Reddit (when I literally just post technical/fandom comments in 2 niche subs), and I think it’s whenever I link Lemmy.

[-] Dis32@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

Man that is strange indeed, kinda like they have a hidden agenda against Lemmy it seems.

[-] brucethemoose@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Yeah, I mean someone inside Reddit is watching and aware of Lemmy. Like how someone inside Twitter is paid to break Nitter to some extent.

[-] Dis32@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

Lol I dunno if you're messing with me at this point if this legit happens like what you say about twitter or not but either way I agree with your statement.

[-] brucethemoose@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Oh, some Twitter API/website changes were clearly designed to bungle rehosters like Nitter, like a cat and mouse game, hence (for a while, last I checked) the Nitter repo shut down and the closed source modifications worked.

I dunno about Reddit banning Lemmy specifically, there's no smoking gun there, but it sure feels like it to me.

[-] Dis32@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

Yeah I can imagine Reddit banning and/or controlling outside communities if they feel like they're "threatened" I know that's not the right word but that's the first thing that came to mind if that makes sense 😅

[-] Taleya@aussie.zone 38 points 4 days ago

What's the bet they're actually just stepping out of an echo chamber for the first time and can't hack being told their opinions are shit

[-] breakingcups@lemmy.world 47 points 4 days ago

I mean, depending on which instance they joined they could've just as easily stepped into an even smaller echo chamber. Lemmy as a concept isn't magically free from them.

[-] onslaught545@lemmy.zip 14 points 4 days ago

Lemmy has a ton of echo chambers. It's a real problem.

[-] Nougat@fedia.io 7 points 4 days ago

Yes, but also no. I could have an account on hexbear and still see things from lots of other places. The beauty of federation is that it’s a lot harder to quash dissent from an administrative level.

Aren't you making the poster's point for him? You just made a whole new post to call him a "Reddit Employee" because you didn't believe he had the experience he wrote he had.

[-] sailormoon@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)
[-] Dis32@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Man, I could go for some poppadoms right about now

[-] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 17 points 4 days ago

Lots of name calling

12 year old keyboard warriors

Somebody misplaced their mirror

[-] Sprocketfree@sh.itjust.works 8 points 4 days ago

I actually find myself having to shed the vitoral of years on reddit over here. Everytime I comment I assume I'll get some horrible response, but then it's helpful... Clearly got some trauma from reddit 😞

[-] AlphaOmega@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Overall Lemmy has been a nicer experience than reddit

OP made a follow up post:

Almost a week here in lemmy and I still don't know how instances work?

But they haven't commented here or there even once.

It's been the absolute opposite for me

[-] Dis32@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago

Same here to be honest, from what I'm experiencing now since I've joined is nothing but a mix of helpful and funny responses, mostly helpful and have yet to see mean response.

As usual reddit is a day late and a dollar short.

[-] Dis32@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Lmao I know right?

[-] Mk23simp 10 points 4 days ago

Sounds like maybe they chose Hexbear as their instance. I haven't seen nearly that much toxicity on Lemmy, except from hexbear users (before defederation).

I think the assessment is correct: if not a reddit agent, they are certainly working to advance that platform's distrust of Lemmy.

[-] BeardedGingerWonder@feddit.uk 3 points 3 days ago

He's a gosh darned poopy head is what he is

[-] Dis32@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

I'm starting to sound like a broken record but it doesn't make any sense! Don't the guy know that it's like that everywhere else (twitter especially), why did they target Lemmy of all things? It sus overall.

[-] FurryMemesAccount 8 points 4 days ago

That's not my experience. Did they go to a right-wing or ML instance?

That makes sense actually, this is a reddit employee, after all.

[-] CaptainBasculin@lemmy.bascul.in 6 points 4 days ago

"are there no mods"

LMAO

[-] _AutumnMoon_ 3 points 4 days ago

ah, yes because as we all know, reddit is known for its very intelligent conversation
