Hello, I am looking for simple introductory information. In the direction of data protection, digital sovereignty, open source, data sovereignty, freedom of information, etc...

I would be very grateful for tips and recommendations! :)

Not slides but I discuss the topic with a friend at https://video.benetou.fr/w/p/q8C2p1Aky9uVPrPShMrAxK so feel free to have a look and let me know if you have questions.

Our pleasure, if you have ideas or suggestions both on topics or how we discuss them, please do share.

Have you looked at privacy guides knowledge base? The site is informative and tailored to beginners.

Thanks - I'll look there! It seems to be focused on privacy (I know so is this community) which is great and covers a lot. But I also look for some kind of broader overview, including politics and ethics.

Is this for yourself?

A few months ago I thought about doing some workshops or presentations in my local area and asked a similar question about whether anyone had already put together something cohesive and as simple as possible but I couldn't find anything that quite fit the bill.

Maybe there is something already out there but if anyone wants to collaborate on making something let me know.

Not exactly for me - I want to do a workshop about the topic as well! (and only have few days to prepare) If I manage to get some slides together I'll gladly share them here!

Yes please! Would you mind also sending me a message when you do, in case I don't see the post? Thanks :)

Give me questions that you ask yourself I will be very happy to answer them ;)

That is very kind! My main question is probably how do I introduce the topic in an interesting way to non-techy folks. What's the best topic to start? What are some must known examples of how things go wrong?

[-] foremanguy92_@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 days ago

For non-techy people I think the best way of getting into it is surely the mass surveillance, "you use social medias, but did you know that all of it is recorded and reported on these?" I would try to use some scary things that would make people first really interested to it from the start, instead of proposing alternatives the second you talk to them. Examples are countless try to inform yourself on the Edward Snowden leak to explain it to them, talk about the numerous spying techniques used by big tech. Hope was at least a bit useful :)
