So, I want to switch to pixel and I read that if I would install custom os on it, it would not void guarantee. Is that true?

If you do this and need to do a warranty replacement, you'll want to do a factory reset before you take it anywhere.

You'll need to flash it back to stock. I took mine in for warranty service, and GrapheneOS is missing the diagnostics app that the techs run, so they wouldn't work on it.

They also said that unlocking and flashing probably voids the warranty so don't mention it when you take it in.

Better idea: buy a used one for cheap and install LineageOS or something on it. It'll run faster than the latest flagship and you'll save a ton of money.

This is exactly what I would do. When I was ready to put graphene on it, I had to pay a certain amount to get it fully paid off and therefore unlockable. But just after that was done, I found out that I could have purchased the same phone refurbished on eBay for less.

pixel7a myself.

install was easy!

phone gets hot easily though

well, i also asked google support themselves. guarantee is only voided if you change something with hardware, if i flash custom rom then guarantee wont be voided. thanks for help everyone

As far as I know, nobody has been denied warranty coverage for installing a custom ROM.

Other commenters have suggested a cheaper used model. This isn't a bad idea, but make sure to balance the money you save against future update lifespan. Paying half as much for a phone with a quarter of the service life would not be a smart move.
