So, I am Agender for some time. There are some close friends that know and support me.

But my mom is having depression and my parents are pretty old. We never talked about gender or sexuality and in our family.

So, I am unsure if I can if I should come out to them.

Well, I wouldn't recommend coming out straight away if you aren't sure it's safe. Perhaps you could try bringing up LGBTQIA+ topics or watching media featuring queer characters, and seeing how your parents react?

Even if they're claiming to be open it can still be dangerous. My mom who claimed tolerance suddenly was devastated when i came out because it's different if it's the own child. It took half a year of convincing and now she's the biggest ally but the start was tough

Yeah, I fear that with my mother too

I maybe start slow as you suggest bringing up topics

Would you gain anything from telling them or not telling them? How open minded are they? Would you introduce a open queer friend to your parents? Did they interacted with lgbtq+ topics before?

I think that might be the basic thoughts for a risk-reward assessment.

For example: If it weights on you that you cant be openly yourself around your parents and your parents have a history of being open minded the go for it.

If you dont realy care and your parents made comments about "the sinfull woke" then you better stay quiet.

My father is quite open minded but my mother is on one side quite conservative and religious.

She also has depression so I am afraid it will hit her because she will teil herself, that it is her fault.
