* sees YouTube adblocker message*

Oh damn, looks like it's time to update my adblocker again.

[-] DakRalter@thelemmy.club 2 points 1 month ago

I've never got one of those! And I'm just using my browser's built in ad blocker. Are they still doing it?

[-] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 1 points 1 month ago

Yeah I got them with Brave a few times over the last couple weeks. Unlock in Firefox it's much rarer.

[-] DakRalter@thelemmy.club 1 points 1 month ago

I guess I'm just a jammy dodger, I've never seen one!

[-] LostWanderer@fedia.io 19 points 1 month ago

I love it when the Turn-off Adblocker prompt has a, "I will not turn off AdBlock or I will not support you" text. I click the fuck out of that. Every ad has a chance of being a malicious one that hijacks my control of the browser (these are really prevalent on mobile).

[-] criss_cross@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

Or it just makes the site absolutely unusable.

I’m pretty sure a method of torture is making people read the mobile version of Fandom and Forbes without Adblock.

[-] LostWanderer@fedia.io 3 points 1 month ago

I would assume that it could be the brand-new form of torture...People are highly creative when it comes to hurting others.

My favorite part about ad blockers is I forget ads exist until I use a browser without one

[-] HamsterRage@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 month ago

I would like an ad-blocker that blocks the "Please enable ads pop-ups"

[-] VonReposti@feddit.dk 5 points 1 month ago

So an ad-blocker-blocker-blocker?

[-] Empricorn@feddit.nl 1 points 1 month ago

But they might block that with an ad-blocker-blocker-blocker-blocker!

[-] lime@feddit.nu 2 points 1 month ago

there are "annoyances" lists you can activate that are mostly cosmetic filters

Dog, I posted this today and you’re already stealing it and reposting w/o attribution?

You literally could have just crossposted it.

[-] cm0002@lemmy.cafe 15 points 1 month ago

Well I did crosspost it, it shows in the crosspost chain view

But this was crossposted as part of ongoing boycotting/protest efforts to reduce the influence of .ml comms because of the behavior of the .ml instance admins to make it an easier decision for other instance admins to defederate

Some highlights from the link:

"Don't worry guys, the Uyghur Genocide was REALLY just birth control! ~dessalines, .ml admin, dev https://lemmy.world/post/30580167

"See! nobody died IN Tiananmen Square, just AROUND it, so it doesn't count!!" ~ Davel, .ml admin https://lemmy.world/post/30673342

.ml admin, Nutomics continued transphobia https://lemmy.world/post/29222558

CW: Original transphobic Comment from Nutomic

"NK is actually good and anything counter to that is Western propaganda!" ~dessalines, .ml admin, dev https://lemmy.world/post/31595035

General negative sentiment to other instances who haven't "seen the way" yet ~davel, .ml admin https://lemmy.world/post/27426510

"If you don't support Russia then you just don't understand geopolitics" ~dessalines, .ml admin, dev https://lemmy.world/post/27352415

[-] misterdoctor@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

Hm, that’s weird that it didn’t show for me. Or at least I wasn’t aware of how to view that chain. Appreciate you sharing the .ml stuff. The fediverse is still a bit much for me, so I appreciate the clarification.

[-] cm0002@lemmy.cafe 6 points 1 month ago

Np, some clients are just weird about it sometimes lol

If you're looking for a good meme comm that isn't on world or .ml !memes@sopuli.xyz is a nice vibrant one

[-] misterdoctor@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Oh damn it, I just realized you mentioned .world as well. That’s the instance I’m on ughhh

[-] cm0002@lemmy.cafe 2 points 1 month ago

.world is fine for the most part, a lot of us are just trying to keep things more distributed amongst smaller instances so that not any one instance can overly dominate with many large comms.

It helps keep things healthier overall for the Threadiverse

[-] marcos@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

Your ad-blocker has popups?

That... completely defeats the point.

[-] SqueakyBeaver@piefed.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 month ago

I believe the meme refers to websites giving that popup when they detect an ad blocker

[-] ohellidk@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 month ago

I'm using the "bypass paywalls clean" add-on. It filters out all if the admiral prompts.
