Not surprised, just disappointed. They're all complicit

[-] entwine413@lemm.ee 91 points 1 month ago

Fucking traitors

[-] Gates9@sh.itjust.works 85 points 1 month ago

How much proof do you need to understand they are working in concert to usher in an imperial fascist police state. The Democrats don’t oppose the Republicans, they oppose YOU. To them, YOU are the threat.

[-] tortina_original@lemmy.world 80 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Americans are the biggest cowards in the world.

What a fucking timeline, this is incredible 😳

Edit: and I don't mean this in an insulting manner, I truly feel bad for them. Barbarians are taking over the Rome, everyone is fucked...

They removed David Hogg from his position but vote to keep trump in his.

[-] AdmiralWhiskersIV 29 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Hogg is a threat to the oligarchy whereas Trump, the entire Republican party, and most of the Democratic party are complicit in supporting it.

[-] mercano@lemmy.world 56 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Roll call for this vote if you want to see how your representative voted and perhaps give them some feedback.

EDIT: The Clerk’s website went down earlier. When it came back up, it looks like they’re returning the wrong results. The vote to table the impeachment resolution was roll call #175, the number you see in the URL. It looks like it’s now displaying the results for roll call #178 on the page, a vote to adjourn. I’ve updated the link to an alternate view that seems to be returning the results for the correct vote, but please check the title of page in case this gets broken again.

[-] taiyang@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

That's confusing, given all Republicans voted Nay.

[-] ernest314@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 month ago

Alternative link corroborating the original article: https://www.govtrack.us/congress/votes/119-2025/h175

I'm not sure what's going on with the first link, but that website is impossible to navigate for me.

[-] Zedd_Prophecy@lemmy.world 13 points 1 month ago

Holy crap - We have complicit Oligarchs and not a opposition party. We as the kids say - are cooked.

[-] AlfredoJohn@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 month ago

Nice so the site is down now what a joke

[-] eugenevdebs@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 1 month ago

Service unavailable on my end. I assume due to high demand, not censorship. I hope so at least.

[-] ChonkyOwlbear@lemmy.world 32 points 1 month ago

The law is clear. It doesn't matter if it's politically convenient or likely to succeed. If the President breaks the law, which Trump clearly has, they must be impeached.

[-] mienshao@lemm.ee 18 points 1 month ago

2025 America is a post-law country.

[-] ChonkyOwlbear@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago

At least for the rich and powerful

[-] eugenevdebs@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 1 month ago

Always been for the rich and powerful, 2025 isn't new territory for them.

[-] ChonkyOwlbear@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago

It's new that they aren't even pretending to play by the same rules

[-] eugenevdebs@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 month ago

That's fair!

Call your representative and tell them you won't vote for them if they don't support impeachment.

[-] ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net 28 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

The political system is completely fucked. I think going grassroots with direct action is currently the best way to both resist, and build horizontal decentralized power that isn't prone to corruption.

  1. find local communities and get involved to make connections
  2. We can effect things drastically with a general strike. This targets the establishment's income streams, and can bring a fascist government to its knees if done on a large enough scale.
  3. Contact a union and attempt to unionize your workplace so that the general strike is even more effective (plus, ya know, better pay and working conditions as a bonus!)

This method would not only work in the US, but anywhere in the world.

Union Suggestions:

  1. Continuing to participate in publicly visible resistance demonstrations like 50501 (the next one is July 17th) to encourage others to stand up with you and prove to that there are millions of others who will join them in the fight. A large part of Nazi Germany's success in taking over the country was a lack of massive public demonstrations against the new regime, making people feel helpless and afraid to take a stand.

If we put in the work, we can resist this and we can win. Look at how effective these methods were when used in Chile in 2019.. If we completely reject the political system and rebel on a mass scale, there is NOTHING they can do to stop us.

Revolution in the streets everyone! Let’s go if they don’t want change we will give them change.

[-] oyzmo@lemmy.world 24 points 1 month ago

It's just like in the playground; almost everybody want to stand up to the bully, but nobody has the guts. They are afraid the bully will call them names or attack. And when finally one does stand up, the others cowers in a corner.

[-] SabinStargem@lemmy.today 17 points 1 month ago

Ah, the Geronocrats. Always been a disappointment throughout my entire life, before and after I became eligible to vote.

[-] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 12 points 1 month ago

Fucking useless.

[-] errer@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago

They all wanted to bomb Iran anyway

[-] CidVicious@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 month ago

TBH I think they're right. It has zero chance to result in removal. It has zero chance of passing either house of congress. It just ends up being an ineffective gesture. Save it for when you have some chance of actually changing something.

[-] Saleh@feddit.org 35 points 1 month ago

And why does it have zero chance? Could it be because they oppose it, instead of supporting it? Imagine all Democrats stood together on this and they could get a few Reps over. Even if it would fail, they would send a signal of unity and standing up for what is right, which could get them back some voters the disgruntled with the whole genocide and appeasing fascism thing.

But no, they double down on it.

[-] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 15 points 1 month ago

And why does it have zero chance?

Gerrymandering in the House and vote caging in the Senate, combined with a media that's the mouthpiece of genocidal billionaires, guarantee Republicans a permanent advantage in Congress no matter how unpopular their leadership becomes.

Imagine all Democrats stood together on this and they could get a few Reps over.

Hardly have to image. That's exactly what occurred in 2019 and 2021. All the Republicans who defected got primaried out and replaced with MAGAts. Dems who played footsie with your Liz Cheneys and Jeff Flakes ended up poisoning their own electoral campaigns and losing supporters. The horse trading between centrist Dems and Repubs backfired colossally, as the legislature could only do shit people hated, while Nancy and Chuck whined about needing bipartisanship to Beat Trump.

Then Biden took office, Merrick Garland refused to press charges of any sort, and Trump scampered off Scott free to run again in four years.

[-] cattywampas@lemm.ee 4 points 1 month ago

It has zero chance because while is there is already plenty that Trump could be impeached on, and I wish he were, this particular thing is not one of them.

[-] NuXCOM_90Percent@lemmy.zip 27 points 1 month ago

Fuck that.

Of course it has no chance of passing. That has absolutely no bearing on future attempts to impeach the dictator which also will have no chance of passing.

But you know what voting against it does? It tells the American People that the democrats in office support trump completely shitting on everything and unilaterally joining israel in a war.

[-] TommySoda@lemmy.world 15 points 1 month ago

And how is doing nothing any better? We are literally on the precipice of authoritarianism yet we are still trying to find the right time. People are literally getting picked up off the streets, we are baselessly bombing countries for Israel, we have the national guard and Marines being sent to cities, we are imposing tariffs on our allies, the president is actively and blatantly accepting bribes, we have an incompetent cabinet that is dismantling everything they see, we have a "big beautiful bill" that will ruin people's lives, we had DOGE hijack all of our data, we have tourists being detained for social media posts, we have people being detained for their free speech, and we have masked men pointing guns at citizens that refuse to identify themselves. So, when is the right time? Is it when it specifically affects them for once? Because if they have to wait that long than we are all fucked.

[-] catloaf@lemm.ee 7 points 1 month ago

It passed the House last time. He's slowly losing the support of the Republicans. It could pass the Senate.

Trying for impeachment is still doing something as opposed to sitting around waiting for someone else to do the job.

[-] GuyFawkes@midwest.social 10 points 1 month ago

Hence why I won’t be voting for my Dem Rep in the next election we may have. Fuck that collaborator bitch.

[-] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

You think voting independent will help?

[-] GuyFawkes@midwest.social 5 points 1 month ago

I think we’re beyond help.

I wonder who funds the ones who voted to kill it

[-] db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 1 month ago

I'm just waiting for all those gnashing their teeth at this to turn around and tell me "vote blue no matter who" in a couple of years/months.

[-] eugenevdebs@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 1 month ago

It'll happen in the midterms, where suddenly we're mesnt to ignore the last 6 years of policies from them and next year they'll let Charlie kick the orange football.

[-] gAlienLifeform@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

I mean, things would be better if we had more Dems in Congress. Definitely not perfect, not even good enough, but slightly better than this shit show.

There might be more stuff you can do in addition to voting that people don't want to discuss or encourage in public channels for a variety of reasons regardless of whether or not they would actually support that kind of stuff, but you may as well also vote if you can.

[-] Freshparsnip@lemm.ee 7 points 1 month ago

They need their heads examined

[-] Maeve@kbin.earth 5 points 1 month ago

They need their heads something, to unsociopathy them

[-] JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

Name em. If it's too hard, name those who voted to proceed.
