Solved it as the bettergeiger is more sensetive, due a different technique.
Yeah, the bettergeiger uses a pancake GM tube which has a much larger detection window than the end-window tubes in most cheaper counters, making it way more sensetive to alpha/beta radiation and not just gamma.
