I'm right handed, but I keep my phone in my left pocket since I like to be able to pull out my phone to check the map or msgs while using my primary hand for another activity.

When texting, I usually use both hands but certainly can type with just my left hand.

Where do you keep your phone & why?

Nice try, pickpocket on the metro

haha, thieves noting where they put their wallets 😂

[-] withabeard@lemmy.world 17 points 4 weeks ago

Phone right front. Wallet right back.

Keys left front. You can't keep a phone and keys in the same pocket. Especially not with the size of modern phones.

Consistency means I always know if I've forgotten my phone keys/wallet. There's never searching or wondering where they've gone.

[-] ApplyingAutomation@lemmy.world 15 points 4 weeks ago

My parents taught me to never keep my wallet in my back pocket due to the risk of causing back problems.

[-] Kbobabob@lemmy.world 3 points 4 weeks ago

I use a really thin non-folding wallet. Sometimes it's in the back and sometimes I put it in the front pocket for more security.

I've seen some of the 4 inch thick wallets that people sit on. No idea how or why.

[-] Tujio@lemmy.world 2 points 4 weeks ago

I used to keep mine in my back pocket, then I noticed that my leg would go numb during long drives. Kinda put two and two together and started keeping it in the front pocket.

[-] grue@lemmy.world 2 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

Well, lookee here at Mr. Moneybags who actually has enough bills for that to be a concern! \s

I use a very thin bifold wallet like this (stock photo; not my ID):

Mine is currently 13.6 mm thick, folded with all my cards and stuff in it. (I happen to have a set of Vernier calipers sitting on my desk in front of me so I went ahead and measured, LOL.)

Spot on. This is EXACTLY my answer. Same logic behind it and everything.

[-] AA5B@lemmy.world 16 points 4 weeks ago

Left, because my keys are in my right pocket and I don’t want to scratch the phone

[-] Bytemeister@lemmy.world 6 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

Same. Left pocket is phone, and phone alone.

Right pocket is everything else.

[-] Mothra@mander.xyz 11 points 4 weeks ago

Right handed, right pocket 95% of the time. Occasionally I catch myself using the left pocket if for whatever reason storing it in the right requires an awkward movement.

[-] SippyCup@feddit.nl 11 points 4 weeks ago

Right handed, left pocket.

When I was deciding what went where, I drove a car with actual locks and cell phones were really only for calls, you didn't spend all day looking at it. So my keys spent more time in my hands than my phone did.

Now it's a habit and I can't change it.

[-] LilB0kChoy@lemm.ee 4 points 4 weeks ago

Samesies. My keys always went in my right pocket so when cellphones came along that went to the left front pocket to protect it from my keys.

[-] OmegaLemmy@discuss.online 9 points 4 weeks ago

Wallet and Keys in left pocket, phone and everything else in right.

I never use the back pocket.

[-] Toneswirly@lemmy.world 8 points 4 weeks ago

Right handed, left pocket.

[-] miss_demeanour@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 4 weeks ago

I use whichever pocket is handy, and I can be seen checking all my pockets every 45 seconds to remind me which pocket my phone is in, lest I need it.
Rinse and repeat.

[-] ytsedude@lemmy.world 7 points 4 weeks ago

Car keys in right pocket. Phone in left. I think it's because cell phones weren't very common when I started driving, haha. So my keys beat my phone to the right pocket by about 2 years or so.

[-] roofuskit@lemmy.world 2 points 4 weeks ago

Yeah I got my first phone around the time I started driving, and then it really only had enough minutes for emergencies or letting my parents know where I'd be. Also I start the car with my right hand so left pocket seems silly.

[-] supermurs@kbin.earth 6 points 4 weeks ago

I keep my phone in my right pocket and keys in the left pocket. I started this habit in high school in 1998 when I got my first phone and just have carried the habit along, it is the most convenient for me.

[-] PillowTalk420@lemmy.world 6 points 4 weeks ago

Left. Because my keys, cigarettes, and lighter are in the right and there's no more room for the phone.

[-] SqueakySpider@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 4 weeks ago

Left handed, left pocket, nothing else in that pocket. Sometimes left coat or jacket pocket but prefer pants.

[-] jordanlund@lemmy.world 6 points 4 weeks ago

Pocket? I keep everything in a cross body bag.

[-] lime@feddit.nu 4 points 4 weeks ago

it's called a fanny pack no matter how you wear it

[-] jordanlund@lemmy.world 2 points 4 weeks ago

No apologies! :)

[-] Crackhappy@lemmy.world 2 points 4 weeks ago

This is the way. I've used a purse for years and it is so much better.

[-] ApplyingAutomation@lemmy.world 2 points 4 weeks ago

Hmm, what size bag do you use?

Left handed, right pocket. Nothing else goes in that pocket.

[-] vvilld@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 4 weeks ago

Back left pocket

[-] quediuspayu@lemmy.world 4 points 4 weeks ago

No preferred pocket for anything. I put my phone in any pocket is easily reached with the hand is holding the phone at that moment.

Sometimes is the front pocket, sometimes is the back pocket, the pocket of the hoodie, inner pocket of the jacket, a bag, breast pocket of a shirt if it is big enough.

[-] Sixtyforce@sh.itjust.works 3 points 4 weeks ago

I'm too inconsistent to even know what pocket it is the majority of the time.

[-] Libb@jlai.lu 3 points 4 weeks ago

None. It's in my messenger bag, or sometimes in a small belt bag of some sort. Why? Because I don't need constantly access my phone as I seldom use it ;)

Thinking about it, I tend to keep nothing in my pockets.

Huh, I just considered I don't have a typical pocket I put my phone in. I'm right handed and I think I tend to put my phone in my left pocket more? Maybe? But I just took it out of my right pocket so I'm not sure.

[-] roofuskit@lemmy.world 3 points 4 weeks ago

Gotta ask, are you the type of person that regularly misplaces things?

[-] roofuskit@lemmy.world 4 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

I see you. My best friend is the type of person who never knows where his things are, and part of that is he doesn't have a set system for where things go. My wife is the same way, but until the patriarchy puts more pockets in women's clothes she gets a pass on that one.

[-] bluesheep@lemm.ee 1 points 4 weeks ago

I mean, not having a set system makes it harder to find things sure. But for me the moment my autopilot brain doesn't place my keys exactly where I normally put them, I will have to search for them.

Right handed, phone front left, keys front right, wallet back right. It's a perfect system. Not sure about other countries but in the US the key start is always on the right side of the steering column and I unlock doors with my right hand.

[-] d_cent@lemmy.world 2 points 4 weeks ago

Same as you. Right Handed, left pocket. My wallet is in my right front pocket. I would bet my older age has everything to do with this.

[-] zxqwas@lemmy.world 2 points 4 weeks ago

Left handed, right pocket.

Back in my days we did not have mobile phones, so keys went into the left pocket. Phone just had to take the other one when I got one.

[-] planish@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 weeks ago

Nice try, phone thieves.

[-] Hikuro93@lemmy.world 2 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

Right, plus car keys.

Earbud case and home keys on the left.

Right pocket on the uniform, because I fear putting my shears and stethoscope in the same pocket, and the shears have a tip that doesn't facilitate the left pocket, and the stethoscope rubber is too grabby on the phone.

Left pocket in general, because my wallet is in the right and I hate them clanking together.

[-] rtxn@lemmy.world 2 points 4 weeks ago

Whichever pocket doesn't conain the keys.

And the keys go in whichever pocket doesn't contain my phone.

[-] BagOfHeavyStones@piefed.social 1 points 4 weeks ago

Front left trouser, unless I'm on a long walk in which case shirt pocket for the radio.

Also using Gravity Screen so it can't wake up and pocket dial etc.

[-] slazer2au@lemmy.world 1 points 4 weeks ago

I switch pockets depending on what I am doing. Sometimes left, sometimes right.
