Its best to download it directly from Microsoft and activate it with MAS

MAS also has links for official Windows and Office.

I’m going to have to amplify Clownsinspace2’s suggestion of libreoffice.

It is free and open source. It will output files in any way you want including MS readable formats.

I had the same issue when I moved from Office XP to OpenOffice, then switched to Libre Office. Then I had I job where I had to maintain multiple laptops for uses in our meeting and presentation space. Included on those laptops had to be Office. I tried switching back to Office, and found myself always reaching for Libre instead.

Youll benefit so much once you rip the bandaid off, saves so much time instead of fathing around torrent sites.

In combination with this, you can change the ui, as other reply said.

But MS changes the layout every new release. LibreOffice is customizable, and stays the way you choose.

MS Office has had the same basic layout for well over a decade now though?

My digital life or use OnlyOffice, its free.

[-] ClownsInSpace2@lemm.ee 35 points 2 months ago

Or Libre Office, also free

I've been using Only Office, it's great. I see no need to use MS Office

OnlyOffice local editors is probably the best drop in replacement for Microsoft office’s basic suite I have found. I’m a professional Linux user stuck in a company that depends on Microsoft products.

Doesn’t cover email, but is very good for everything else.

Can also edit PDF files, sort of. Doesn’t always format well on conversion from PDF to editable, but still workable in some cases

I use onlyoffice too, but are there other foss options? It's just terrible all around. Like you can't even copy and paste text in the writer, formulas don't work for no good reason in spreadsheets, and the android app crashes so often you can't make one formula and get it saved before it craps out. Libreoffice is perfect, but I need the cloud 😅 at this point I'm considering paid options or just crawling back to google

OP am glad you found the answer.

Adding this here for future reference if needed:

https://massgrave.dev/

https://github.com/massgravel/Microsoft-Activation-Scripts

Official downloads from MS, perma activation via the scripts.

Works for Windows (all editions) as well.
