in germany driving around pointlessly is illegal i think

[-] Tiefkuehlkost@feddit.org 2 points 8 hours ago

It is, but you have to do something really abstract, like this meme, to not be able to come up with some excuse that nobody cares to verify.

[-] ArchmageAzor@lemmy.world 42 points 22 hours ago

Leftists be like:

[-] Valmond@lemmy.world 40 points 1 day ago

[-] Kushan@lemmy.world 14 points 20 hours ago

I'm in the UK, they force you to turn right.

[-] g0d0fm15ch13f@lemmy.world 69 points 1 day ago

fwiw, I personally know for a fact that 15 to 20 minutes is fine. Ask me about other ironically bad first date ideas

[-] StarvingMartist@sh.itjust.works 23 points 1 day ago

Dont feel bad, my first date with my fiancée was at a grocery store

[-] Uli@sopuli.xyz 29 points 1 day ago

No way that's where I had my first prune

[-] OldManBOMBIN@lemmy.world 7 points 21 hours ago

I almost died on the toilet because of this comment.

[-] iii@mander.xyz 22 points 1 day ago

How about other ironically bad first date ideas?

[-] g0d0fm15ch13f@lemmy.world 16 points 21 hours ago

One of my personal faves: Told this girl in college that we were gonna go to a place called Donnie's steakhouse. She got somewhat dressed up for the occasion. Donnie's is just McDonalds. If they've got a good sense of humor (and she did), they'll get a good kick out of it. Although it may take a day or two.

[-] Deestan@lemmy.world 27 points 1 day ago

If you confuse and distract other drivers, that's endangering traffic and police will remove you.

[-] moshtradamus666@lemmy.world 10 points 21 hours ago

The first sentence was enough for me lol

[-] MrJameGumb@lemmy.world 86 points 1 day ago

I feel like if a cop came by a few times and saw you still going around they would probably pull you over just to see if you're having an episode or something, then probably tell you to go home. I think you'd only really get in trouble if you were a dick about it.

[-] Cethin@lemmy.zip 1 points 37 minutes ago

I definitely think they could get you for endangering others, or something like that. I don't think it's explicitly illegal, but I'd be surprised if it isn't implicitly illegal.

[-] smuuthbrane@sh.itjust.works 65 points 1 day ago

Driving? You're fine.

Drifting? You'll get yer peepee whacked.

[-] MidsizedSedan@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

Theres probably easier ways to get your peepee whacked...

[-] Iheartcheese@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

[-] PostProcess@lemmy.world 26 points 1 day ago

I believe the UK has a law for this and it's 7 times.

[-] gedhrel@lemmy.world 10 points 23 hours ago

There's no such law in the UK.

[-] neidu3@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 day ago

Norway here. I'm sure I've heard 7 somewhere too.

[-] crusty@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 11 hours ago

I don't think there's a specific rule but if you obstruct traffic unnecessarily you're breaking veitrafikkloven §3

"Everyone must travel with consideration and be alert and cautious so that no danger arises or damage is caused and so that other traffic is not unnecessarily obstructed or disturbed."

[-] neidu3@sh.itjust.works 1 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago)

Where I grew up there was a russeknute for driving around the roundabout (there was only one) 20 times. Traffic was reasonably heavy during normal rush hours, but every May evening the obstructed traffic was other drives waiting for their turn to do their 20 laps.

As far as I know, nobody were ticketed.

American here, although I have no clue 7 sounds fine so we're calling it. Get on with it.

[-] FelixCress@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago

American here

Too complicated for you.

[-] ouRKaoS@lemmy.today 15 points 22 hours ago

Even the word roundabout is too complicated... My GPS refers to them as "traffic circles".

Despite what many people think/have heard, most places do not have a specific law against doing loops in a roundabout. And when they do it is often a local ordinace(mostly small towns trying to prevent a local car community from driving up and down the main street all night). Although other laws or regulations can apply depending on circumstances.

Things like impeding/obstructing traffic, careless/reckless driving, noise ordinance, etc. But if you're driving around one in an industrial area at night, the worst you'll get is probably some accusing questions and a "warning".

[-] 4vr@lemmy.ca 43 points 1 day ago

Now I wanted to know the answer.

What happens if a self driving car has a glitch and get stuck infinitely in an round about ?

[-] Gullible@sh.itjust.works 22 points 1 day ago

Prob’ly towed. Self driving cars can’t recognize police. There are several videos of robotaxis horrifically malfunctioning and police can’t do much other than box them in and call the company to have them remotely shut off and towed.

[-] acidbattery@lemm.ee 8 points 1 day ago

You get stuck in vehicular purgatory.

[-] davidagain@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago

Look kids! Big Ben! Parliament!

[-] uawarebrah@sh.itjust.works 29 points 1 day ago

Basically Nascar tbh

[-] morrowind@lemmy.ml 20 points 1 day ago

I remember someone tested this. They lasted like eight hours until some neighbor called a cop

[-] UltraGiGaGigantic@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 day ago

Snitches get stitches.

[-] jenesaisquoi@feddit.org 5 points 1 day ago

In my country it's forbidden to drive in the roundabout for longer than necessary to reach the desired exit.
