For what it's worth, this is the latest among several prominent Microsoft-owned teams to unionize. Bethesda is union, Raven Software is another former-Activision studio that unionized, and even at Blizzard, the World of Warcraft development team has been union for a bit.

There are lots of problems at Microsoft, but it doesn't seem like they've continued Activision's old union-busting strategies at least.

Does anyone even still play Overwatch 2 anymore? I never see any news about it for eSports like I used to with Overwatch.

A bunch of my friends from college kept telling me I've gotta play it, espectially because among them the only other game they all played was R6 Siege. I wasn't too enthused considering all the discussion I can find of the game says it sucks now. When they eventually got me to play it I found it... ok.

Based on the demographics of those friends, I'd say it's mostly popular among people who, if you asked them if they were really into games would say yes, but if you asked them for any "hidden gems" they've come across would give suggest highly recognizeable non-AAA games like Helldivers 2 or Balatro. Partly because their definition of "really into games" is that they play games that have an esports scene (even if their competitiveness goes only as far as playing in ranked matchmaking).

Sound pretentious for me to put it that way but I find that to be the pattern.

I've been playing pretty regularly since 2017. It's the only multiplayer game that I play, since I normally don't like letting my teammates down. I enjoy seeing the puzzle pieces of a random team and trying to figure out how to play in a way that will make them work. At its best, the matches are close and you feel like "It was winnable if I had..." They've spent a lot of time giving people the ability to avoid players you don't want on your team, report trolls, and stick to the game modes that don't make you angry. They've never known if the game should be competitive or fun, and so it's never quite been successful at either. Most of us who play the game would not recommend it. If you start a match and say, "Anybody here ready to have some fun?!" Everyone will say "No, this is Overwatch." And they're right, and that's okay.

I had a lot of fun until a series of throwers started making the rounds. I lost 6 games in a row because there was one dps in every game who just ran around, never fired a shot and just died. I don't know if it's just bots or if that's just the funny thing to do, but for your team it's just a huge waste of time. It's not the games fault, but the way the game works where you're stuck multiple rounds with the same people, and if you leave you can't join another game until the one is over and your penalty is over. I had a game where everyone left, except that guy and the enemy team. It seems to be a paradise for grieving.
