Summary

Trump lashed out at bipartisan critics after reports revealed he plans to accept a $400 million Boeing 747-8 jet from Qatar for use as Air Force One.

In a Truth Social post, Trump dismissed concerns as “world class losers” complaining about a transparent gift. Qatar stated the plane is under legal review between its Ministry of Defense and the Pentagon.

Critics, including Sen. Bernie Sanders, Sen. Chris Murphy, and Rep. Jamie Raskin, accused Trump of corruption and violating the Constitution.

Even allies like Laura Loomer led the MAGA pushback to the jet deal.

People just aren't considering the arguments in favor of accepting it, such as how cool it would be to receive what might be the biggest bribe in the history of bribery.

[-] ripcord@lemmy.world 37 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

There's sadly been much bigger bribes.

Even within his family.

It's certainly the biggest one a president has openly accepted. By, like, 400 million dollars.

[-] ceenote@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

I was thinking the biggest single item.

[-] T00l_shed@lemmy.world 13 points 2 months ago

Depends. Is the 2 billion deal for classified information one item, or divided by bits of intel?

[-] IphtashuFitz@lemmy.world 37 points 2 months ago

It likely also has the best always-on one-way communication link to Qatar that money can buy.

[-] Knock_Knock_Lemmy_In@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

the biggest bribe in the history of bribery.

Didn't somewhere get a large wooden horse once?

Alternative headline: "Spoiled child throws tantrum when told No."

[-] fwdbias@lemm.ee 32 points 2 months ago

So....is anyone not thinking that the plane is absolutely chock full of spying devices? I mean sure Trump is too stupid to think of it as anything other than a tribute to his greatness but is there a single sane person there?

[-] wildcardology@lemmy.world 14 points 2 months ago

No need for spying devices, he's for sale they can just buy the info they need.

[-] jojowakaki@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago

I can't remember did I actually read it or hallucinated it, but I remember something about trump "selling" (auctioned?) "dinner with Trump" events and most of the tickets are bought out by "foreign influence". He is clearly selling "chance to influence trump over dinner" tickets knowingly.

[-] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 months ago

Yea the auction ended yesterday.

[-] Ledericas@lemm.ee 10 points 2 months ago

i dont think you need to bug trumps planes, he has a big mouth and will say anything for money.

[-] aeroplayne@lemm.ee 10 points 2 months ago

Oh, this jet is going to have more bugs than a rainforest. It will be hilarious and compromising.

[-] fake_meows@lemm.ee 7 points 2 months ago

And just wait until he starts keeping classified documents in the airplane lavatory next to the photocopier.

[-] fnrir 5 points 2 months ago

There probably is, hence "bipartisan critics"

Traitors to the Constitution & rule of law applied universally should get only gifts of a short rope and a long drop

[-] ieatpwns@lemmy.world 25 points 2 months ago

Hear me out… what if this is them doing the us a “favor”

[-] altphoto@lemmy.today 23 points 2 months ago

Wait.... The plane is transparent? Wow! We should accept that sucker like now and figure out how they did it! LOL.

Ah. What a guy. Calling his constituents, who he pledged to protect, "losers"

He's the best. Everyone's saying it. Some say he's the best ever.. And, listen, some of the world's best people have said so. He's awesome.

/S

Was that a decent imitation of that orange moron?

[-] FireAtWill@lemmy.world 19 points 2 months ago

One man's beautiful gift is almost everyone else's blatant corruption.

[-] Treczoks@lemmy.world 16 points 2 months ago

First of all, he is not "losing his mind". You cannot lose what you already lost decades ago.

[-] comeonitsnotlike@feddit.nu 4 points 2 months ago

I'd go even further. You can't lose what you've never had.

Let him have the plane. Its probably sabotaged anyway.

[-] miraclerandy@lemmy.world 12 points 2 months ago

I’d guess it would be less dramatic than that. Probably mics and bugs throughout it so they can get some good data on him.

[-] AdolfSchmitler@lemmy.world 10 points 2 months ago

Hope he paid the 10% tarrif on that $400 mil plane being shipped here from another country lol

Maybe we will get lucky and he’ll invite musk and other billionaire backers into the plane for its first official flight, at which point Boeing plane does what it does best coupled with a crippled FAA… one can dream.

Why is thedailybeast of all outlets posting a headline that assumes trump is in any way not demented?

Have they ever heard him speak?

[-] sunbrrnslapper@lemmy.world 10 points 2 months ago

Didn't Boeing stop making these a few years ago? Like, are Qatar gifting trump a used plane?

[-] ramble81@lemm.ee 12 points 2 months ago

Airplanes usually operate on the order of decades. The 747-8 was made between 2012 and 2023, so it’s still a relatively new plane depending on when it was delivered initially.

[-] PotatoLibre@feddit.it 10 points 2 months ago

Is surely old but I guess is the setup that makes it worth.

It's probably a plane with a yacht-level expensive interiors

[-] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago

Yes, but also they still maintain them. Even the new Air Force One 747-800s that are being fitted right now are from a canceled order.

[-] heyWhatsay@slrpnk.net 9 points 2 months ago

Of course he cannot accept it. It is not American made. We know American first. And then think of all the tariffs he would need to pay for it!
