Alternatively enjoy the original experience at a fourth the price, available as game of the year edition that includes expansions.

Or buy on sale for only 3 Euro!!

€55 Euro for just a graphics remaster is bullshit IMO.

The original is also required to enjoy Skyblivion, the fan-made remake with much more love and care put into it, when it comes out later this year.

[-] sic_semper_tyrannis@lemmy.today 13 points 3 weeks ago

Oh it's finally releasing as a finished game?!

[-] Allero@lemmy.today 14 points 3 weeks ago

Yes, it's about to be released as well! Skywind is not extremely far behind, too!

[-] ZC3rr0r@lemmy.ca 5 points 3 weeks ago

If Bethesda handles SkyWind the same as SkyBlivion I am actually quite stoked to play a UE5 version of Morrowind....

[-] sic_semper_tyrannis@lemmy.today 4 points 3 weeks ago

Morrowind modded in OpenMW is actually quite fun to play, the main thing I'd really appreciate in a remake would be getting rid of the D20 system for a more modern hit mechanic. Striking time and time again an enemy only to never do damage is so frustrating.

[-] BoulevardBlvd 7 points 3 weeks ago

Why do you think Bethesda threw this out the door with no warning? It's their last chance to milk oblivion before more competent people step in

[-] Quetzalcutlass@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

They announced a 2025 release date back in 2023, and as of the last video update a few months ago it seems they're still hoping to hit it.

Also don't forget that the original version has mods that make it look as good, if not potentially better, than this one.

[-] Glytch@lemmy.world 35 points 3 weeks ago

I'll just wait for skyblivion

Reminder that Bethesda is owned by Microsoft and is therefore one of the core BDS targets.

Microsoft is perhaps the most complicit tech company in Israel’s illegal occupation, apartheid regime and ongoing genocide against 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza – which is why Microsoft is a now priority BDS target. (source)

[-] secret300@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

I've been boycotting Microsoft for years. They've done so much in the past and people finally are doing it. I'm glad they are but this could have been avoided if everyone boycotted them earlier. Everyone that has bought an Xbox and gave them money aided them in genocide.

voices re-recorded

How did they get all 5 people back?! ducks

Edit: I was watching a channel comment on the trailer and they apparently brought in more voice actors at least for the different races now that 'the storage requirements aren't as strict' (paraphrased).

[-] Montagge@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 weeks ago

The live stream thing had the voice actor for the Imperial guards and Sheograth.

[-] Cossty@lemmy.world 13 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

It runs like shit in the open world. Sub 20 fps. The person who verified this probably played only the tutorial in the sewers. On top of that you have to run it on the lowest settings and subjectively, the old version on the highest settings looks better than the new version on the lowest settings in my opinion, while running with locked 60 fps.

Meta/NewsBethesda gave all Skyblivion developers free keys for Oblivion Remastered

Bethesda gave free keys to all developers of Skyblivion: Link Here

Huge thanks to our friends @bethesdastudios.com for their continued support of #Skyblivion! As massive fans, we're beyond grateful for the generous gift of Oblivion Remastered game keys for our entire modding team! This means so much to us. Thank you for everything, @bethesda.net

Now that is awesome.

[-] BigDaddySlim@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago

Didn't they just announce it a few days ago? I was not expecting it to release already, wow

[-] eRac@lemmings.world 8 points 3 weeks ago

They teased it yesterday and announced it today. Everything before that was leaks, which have been trickling out for months but accelerated last week.

[-] Quetzalcutlass@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

It's a marketing tactic called "shadow-dropping". It's a risky tactic that relies on word-of-mouth for marketing instead of an expensive ad campaign. It tends to be used either when the company isn't confident in their product, or if the drop is so desirable that it'll sell well regardless of marketing.

We can assume this is the latter, though it's possible Bethesda were also hedging their bets due to the remake's lack of mod compatibility since long-tail revenue from modding basically carries them for the several years between game releases.

[-] unce@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 3 weeks ago

Hellyeah nice. I didn't know they were making this.

[-] Rodneyck@lemm.ee 8 points 3 weeks ago

Me either. The trailer is awesome and well done.

[-] commander@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago

Loved Oblivion and on PC just wanted no frills gamepad support. I'm good with this. I'll try out Skyblivion when it comes out too. Oblivion is probably my favorite in series for questing. Solid enough voice acting, more varied in this one, while being more entertaining than Skyrim and TESO

[-] buffysummers@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 weeks ago

There's a mod for that. If you don't like the reskinned UI you can just choose "NorthernUIAway (Vanilla Style)" from the Files tab to get a version with only bugfixes and the added gamepad support.

Playing this as we speak. Runs great on Fedora 42. (R7 7700, 9070XT and 32GB ram)

Also feels just like the original with better graphics and a few QOL changes that I’ve noticed.

[-] Bogus1449@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 weeks ago

Did you get any stuttering or frame pacing issues in the open world sections? I was playing on Fedora 42 too, but ended up refunding because of performance issues. Not sure if it’s just my computer getting a bit ‘old’ though…

[-] Parptarf@lemm.ee 1 points 2 weeks ago

Sometimes, but it’s Oblivion running in UE5 so I didn’t exactly expect perfect performance at launch.

Doesn’t bother me much. Lack of FSR4 bothers me more, but that’s a «linux issue» and not the game’s fault.

[-] Montagge@lemmy.zip 4 points 3 weeks ago

125GBs doesn't jive with my 8Mbps internet lol

[-] 3laws@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

Where do you live and how much do you pay for that? I'm at 1Gbps for the equivalent of $35 USD ~22-04-25~

[-] Montagge@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Pacific Northwest in the US and $45. Which is much better than the $65 I had to pay Centurylink for 500kbps where I lived previously. There's fiber 2 miles from my house but it doesn't come down my road.

Yay America

[-] 3laws@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

Incredible. I'm guessing population density is really low, your money is not enough 😭

[-] Montagge@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 weeks ago

The 500kbps was just a few miles outside of a metro area of millions. My dad lives in bumfuck nowhere in the same state outside a town of a few hundred and he gets 60Mbps.

I keep hoping they'll run fiber down the road, but there aren't a ton of houses down this road. Mostly private timber, shitty Weyerhauser, and small farms.

[-] cron@feddit.org 2 points 3 weeks ago

As long as you don't have a data cap, just leave it running for two days

[-] Montagge@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 weeks ago

Yeah, that's what I usually do. It just sucks no one in the house can use the internet for 2-3 days when these bloated messes cone out.

[-] Rodneyck@lemm.ee 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I installed it using Lutris under Arch, no issues and looks fantastic. I haven't played much yet, created my character mostly. I had to let the shaders do their thing with initial setup, so we will see if I get any stutter in the open world.

P/S, just checked Nexus Mods and there is already 900+ mods for Oblivion Remastered? I may have to spend some time modding.

[-] who@feddit.org 1 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Anyone know if the save games are compatible with the original?
