Speculation of Tesla CEO’s possible departure comes as his influence in the administration appears to wane

Elon Musk is reportedly set to leave his government role because he’s tired of the what he sees as a litany of vicious and unethical attacks from the left, according to a report from The Washington Post.

It remains unclear when Musk will depart as head of DOGE; his special government employee status will expire at the end of next month. A person familiar with his thinking told The Post that Musk thinks that his work at DOGE won’t be diminished because of his departure, noting that staffers have already established themselves across a slew of federal agencies.

But speculation of Musk’s possible departure comes as his influence in the administration appears to wane. The New York Times reported last week that the acting commissioner of the IRS was being replaced after Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent complained that Musk had his preferred candidate installed without Bessent’s support. Musk has also annoyed other cabinet members by failing to coordinate with them in cost-cutting moves.

As he should be. All billionaires should be afraid.

If only they were physical attacks. Musk is a vile piece of shit with incomprehensible wealth and he's squandering it. Worse, he's making the world worse. I want him to suffer. I want him removed from power and I want him to feel pain. I want every sad little man that would follow in his footsteps to see musk dangling from the gallows and think better.

I don’t understand these tools that think they live on another planet. If they wreck this one with hedonistic malicious disregard, there’s no place to go. They’re kings of a shitpile. Money is meaningless at that point.

This is just posturing to make people feel like we're not speed running towards fascism. I doubt that there will be any slow down behind the scenes

[-] jimjam5@lemmy.world 11 points 5 months ago

Get fucked musk for the rest of your days.

[-] EndlessNightmare@reddthat.com 10 points 5 months ago

Bye! Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

[-] Yawweee877h444@lemmy.world 10 points 5 months ago

Is this his planned escape route after he's already gutted and skullfucked government programs that benefit lower income and working class people, environment, etc? Also after he's redirected government funding, tax money, to his businesses?

I'm not saying I have evidence there's truth to this, but I wouldn't be surprised. If he does go away, much of the public will forget really quickly. His shittiness and his obvious nazi salutes should never be forgotten.

The one downside to his leaving is now all of the disruption of doge wont be announced to the world. He was the worst person to put in charge because he loved the spotlight and thus it made it easy to see all the fucked up shit that was going on. Now we'll have to pay attention a little harder.

What do You mean 'Leave politics'? You were never in politics. You bought yourself a made up job at the white house. That's not the same as being a politician.

[-] adarza@lemmy.ca 9 points 5 months ago

his tenure has always had a built in expiry date after which much more throughout background checks and vetting are required. he will be gone before then. he's just setting the table so it is seen as "his idea".

"Elon Musk is reportedly set to leave his government role because he’s tired of the what he sees as a litany of vicious and unethical attacks from the left..."

OR...hear me out...Trump is sick of him and wants him gone (because two egos that large cannot coexist in the same space indefinitely) and this is the cover story.

OR...Elon has already accomplished 99.9% of what he wanted by gaining access to all the data he wanted and further embedding SpaceX, Starlink, etc., into government contracts.

OR...some mix of all of the above.

Even the hat in that picture is looking to escape that douce.

[-] newthrowaway20@lemmy.world 8 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

He can leave, and he should. But the attacks against his character will NEVER stop.

Consider this the easy option.

[-] FartsWithAnAccent@fedia.io 6 points 5 months ago

It could stop if he were capable of empathy or self awareness, but he's just going to keep being a dickhead, which annoys and upsets people, so he'll keep blaming them because growing as a person is just too hard for him I guess? Blaming everyone else is so much easier!

[-] adespoton@lemmy.ca 8 points 5 months ago

To be fair, from where he’s sitting, everyone is to the left, and any sane opinion is an attack on his point of view.

[-] mo_lave@reddthat.com 7 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

He should just focus on making rockets fly and cars self-drive.

[-] boaratio@lemmy.world 7 points 5 months ago

Fuck this guy forever.

[-] HarkMahlberg@kbin.earth 7 points 5 months ago

When he dies, I hope they at least do me the courtesy of marking the ditch they dump his body in so I know where to piss.

[-] Veedem@lemmy.world 7 points 5 months ago

Man, fuck this guy. I hope he gets burned badly just like everyone else in Trump’s wake.

[-] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 7 points 5 months ago

He's got to be extra delusional if he think the 'left' will stop criticizing his Nazi ass.

[-] DevCat@lemmy.world 6 points 5 months ago

I would care, except the muskmelons said that empathy is a sin

[-] kruhmaster@sh.itjust.works 6 points 5 months ago

No one fucking invited you bro.

To co-opt the Right's terminology: what a fucking snowflake

[-] ArchmageAzor@lemmy.world 5 points 5 months ago

I don't think he will. I think he's trying to get people to sympathize with him.

He has already hobbled the organizations that oversee his companies/interests/etc. He can say whatever he wants but for all we know this is just a planned exit.

I'll be glad if he does step down but he has already caused unrepairable damage.

[-] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 5 points 5 months ago

Good. It's working. Also you're not "in politics" you pathetic little bitch. You're just fucking around ruining peoples lifes so you can get some selfies in the Whitehouse and try to make your life even easier than it already is.

[-] j0ester@lemmy.world 5 points 5 months ago

Not going to change my mind. He’s for Donald.. I’m against him.
