When fish have nicer teeth than me.

[-] FenrirIII@lemmy.world 16 points 3 months ago

Have you tried a freshwater diet?

[-] oce@jlai.lu 80 points 3 months ago

What kind of people have teeth that look exactly like this? That's nuts.

[-] AmidFuror@fedia.io 37 points 3 months ago

Fish people

The front row ones look more similar to our teeth than an apes, so that is pretty crazy to me.

[-] samus12345@lemm.ee 15 points 3 months ago

A partially eaten cooked Pacu fish.

[-] Rocketpoweredgorilla@lemmy.ca 35 points 3 months ago

They evolved to chew nuts that fell into the water

Ok well, I'm never swimming again.

[-] AmidFuror@fedia.io 16 points 3 months ago

If you wade or jump in, you'll be fine.

[-] moody@lemmings.world 7 points 3 months ago

If your junk is dry, the fish can't get to it

[-] Opisek@lemmy.world 27 points 3 months ago

I too have three rows of teeth.

When I wake up screaming at 2 am, this right here, this is why.

[-] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 19 points 3 months ago

Can we use them for transplants?

Is this an example of convergent evolution?

[-] lars@lemmy.sdf.org 5 points 3 months ago

Hey it is! Kinda. I Think.

But why are human teeth shaped like this in the front? Not so much for nuts, right?

[-] SmackemWittadic@lemmy.world 8 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

I thought the same thing so I looked into it! The pacu fish's front teeth aren't flat like ours. They're more like our molars, which serve the same purpose of being used for crushing (so it technically still is convergent evolution)

Anytime! An opportunity to learn should always be used :)

[-] ByteJunk@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

That article you linked literally starts with

We apologize in advance for the nightmarish qualities inherent to the pacu fish

No. Nope. No way. Uh uh. I'm not scrolling down. NEVER. You hear me? I have enough nightmares as it is...

[-] SmackemWittadic@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

Honestly I don't blame you given the pictures of them with their teeth out

[-] cowfodder@lemmy.world 15 points 3 months ago

You people have never watched River Monsters with Jeremy Wade and it shows.

[-] Lucky_777@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

Name checks out, hay seed

[-] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 11 points 3 months ago

Sounds like propaganda from Big Almond.

Is this some Midwest Big Apple?

[-] tomenzgg@midwest.social 2 points 3 months ago

No, that's the Big Onion.

[-] dharmacurious@slrpnk.net 8 points 3 months ago

Can I harvest teeth from this fish to replace the one I'm missing?

[-] Sunsofold@lemmings.world 8 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Are you suggesting people are evolutionarily suited to gobbling nuts?

[-] MonkderVierte@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

I can eat walnut whole. The shell is fibrous, good for digestion.

[-] taxiiiii@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

Found. The pacu fish

[-] midsommar_blomma@lemm.ee 7 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

There's another marine fish that also has these kind of teeth -- look up Sheepshead fish!

[-] tomenzgg@midwest.social 1 points 3 months ago

I hadn't had many regrets in life, originally.

[-] altphoto@lemmy.today 6 points 3 months ago

When the Japanese finally get their teeth generation DNA therapy going, everyone will be after these fish for starter scaffolds.

[-] Sibbo@sopuli.xyz 6 points 3 months ago

Would you kiss that mouth?

[-] CuddlyCassowary@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

Depends how many drinks I’ve had.

This is for strictly mildly interesting material. If it's too interesting, it doesn't belong. If it's not interesting, it doesn't belong.

This is obviously an objective criteria, so the mods are always right. Or maybe mildly right? Ahh.. what do we know?

Just post some stuff and don't spam.
