Better late than never. Instead of criticizing then for it, we should be encouraging it

[-] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 3 weeks ago

Except it's on purpose that they're only doing so now that it's too late.

They've known for years that, should he be allowed to infest the White House again, the Mango Mussolini would institute tariffs again, but still they supported him wholeheartedly, only to pretend to take a principled stand the day after most of them come into effect.

It's pure posturing from two career invertebrates who have made a career of the basest demagoguery and political fraud.

It's not too late. Tariffs can be rolled back

[-] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

If you bribe Trump, sure, but they've already done tremendous damage to both the US and the rest of the world. Can't roll that back.

[-] iopq@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

You want them NOT to convince him?

[-] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

I'm saying that their empty posturing won't convince him.

Especially since he knows they'll cower the moment he lobs a mean tweet equivalent their way.

[-] iopq@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

What will convince him, then? I think Republicans speaking out against tariffs is the only thing that possibly can

[-] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

What will convince him, then?

Already told you so: bribes. Maybe flattery and groveling from foreign leaders.

I think Republicans speaking out against tariffs is the only thing that possibly can

[-] iopq@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

You realize thee Congress controls tariffs, right? They have already introduced a bill stripping Trump of these powers. He said he'd veto it.

To overcome a veto (or to pass the bill at all) you need Republican votes unless you're going to suffer until midterms

[-] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 3 weeks ago

You realize thee Congress controls tariffs, right?

De jure, sure, but de facto, Trump controls every Republican since a single tweet equivalent from him can result in them being successfully primaried and becoming victims of threats or even outright violence.

Trump owns them and they will follow his every kakistocratic whim off a cliff.

He knows it. They know it. Anyone who's paying attention knows it. I suggest you join the latter group.

[-] iopq@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Which is why Republicans going against him is important

That has as much of a chance of passing as a bill defunding the military. Pure posturing again.

[-] carrion0409@lemm.ee 17 points 3 weeks ago

Now these fucking geeks speak out about it ? We're a day away from a possible 104% tariff on china and they chose to wait till now ? I'm gonna become the fucking joker istg.

[-] Geetnerd@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago

Well, yeah, Trump is fucking with their donor's money. The only thing any of them have every really cared about.

[-] Treczoks@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

Oh, are they shitting their pants already, because they have read up what had happened in the 1932 elections?

[-] frustrated_phagocytosis@fedia.io 2 points 3 weeks ago

That dip in the crude oil price probably made his petroleum sponsors unhappy, they want maximum profit now that they don't have to worry about federal regulations
