What a rotten country the united states of america has become

[-] ElcaineVolta@kbin.melroy.org 33 points 2 weeks ago

we've been bombing Yemen since Obama was president. you are right though.

[-] Cocopanda@futurology.today 8 points 2 weeks ago

First time?

[-] Riprif@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Each bomb that hits the houthis is a favor to the rest of the world. Given as a gift, by the USA.

[-] Maven@lemmy.zip 36 points 2 weeks ago

What about the 17 innocent civilians that died during this bombing?

You know... The war crime part

[-] Riprif@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

They should have taken it upon themselves to overthrow the houthis like 20 years ago already. The houthis holding the Suez hostage for more than a year economically hurts multiple billions of people. The damage they are feeling is a small fraction of the damage they have done to the rest of the world. It's just not easy to show a representation of a small % of damage to the entire global economy like you can show a viral video clip of a bomb landing.

This has to be the most vile comment I've read on lemmy. It's like saying that the people in the twin towers deserved to die because they didn't overthrow Bush.

[-] GissaMittJobb@lemmy.ml 14 points 2 weeks ago

Brutally 'solving' a problem entirely caused by the U.S, all while trying to demand gratitude from the rest of the world.

U.S foreign intervention in a nutshell, really

The majority of the damage the houthis have done is to the economy of Europe. Despite their slogan they are not competent enough to figure out how to really hurt the US or Israel, not for a lack of trying, though.

[-] small44@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago

Reports and the magnitude of attacks on Yamen shows that their actions indeed hurt the US and Israel . Many European countries are complicit with the genocide with military collaborations, good economical relations, refusing arrest warrents by the ICC and even selling weapons to Israel

"I will cut your kid's leg because your country government hurt my economy. " fuck is wrong with you with this logic. the same logic of the worst terrorists of cartels who have no funtioning brain or emotions because their drug intake.

[-] Riprif@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

They could just not shoot at ships. Ignoring that makes your argument a little pointless.

[-] stephen01king@lemmy.zip 8 points 2 weeks ago

Who's they? The innocent civilians are shooting at ships? Is this shopkeeper shooting at ships and deserves to feel their life endangered by US bombs?

[-] itslilith 3 points 2 weeks ago

Right, the kids they just bombed should just not have shot at ships /s

What the fuck is wrong with you

[-] Riprif@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

The people there should have taken care of the Houthis themselves like 20 years ago.

[-] ElcaineVolta@kbin.melroy.org 8 points 2 weeks ago

lol what a baby brained take on this.

[-] peoplebeproblems@midwest.social 68 points 2 weeks ago

This isn't just a yemeni shopkeeper keeping calm. That's probably his son.

He's scared shitless. But he also knows that if one of those bombs hits his shop, they're dead. So he's being a parent instead.

In the face of crisis, the first thing a parent can do is either panic, making the entire experience worse for the kid, or stay calm and collected, demonstrating that "this too, shall pass."

[-] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 53 points 2 weeks ago

I want everyone who isn't vocally opposing the war on terror to see videos like this until they fucking learn human empathy.

[-] Sir_Kevin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 20 points 2 weeks ago

I don't think a missing human emotion can legitimately be learned. Sociopaths can do ok at faking it but they will never actually feel it.

[-] scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech 11 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah we learned last year that half of this fucking country runs on pure hate for anyone who isn't exactly like them, and even then they'll find reasons to hate them too. They're suffering but other people suffering worse actually makes them feel better. Then they're shocked and appalled when their Walmart trip gets more expensive and their response to it is that other people should still be hurt more.

They have no empathy. They do not have the capability to think about anyone other than themselves, and it shows daily.

[-] SreudianFlip@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago

Yet you can injure people with culture. Constantly stoking emotions like fear and its siblings hatred, loathing, and obedience, eventually stimulates the amygdala into an enlarged state.

The problem is not just ideology, it's biology. Cults are freaky, man. There's the psychology of inducing trances and there's even probably some weird acausal shit that we don't understand and would label magic.

But our persistence as a species relies on us figuring it out.

[-] Ulrich@feddit.org 1 points 2 weeks ago

The only difference between you and them is where their empathy lies. War is awful shit, but often used to end other much more awful, and less visible shit.

[-] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 14 points 2 weeks ago

War is awful shit, but often used to end other much more awful, and less visible shit.

You do realize we're talking about the war on terror here right? If you think there's something more awful than bombing an apartment building and killing 53 people being prevented by this shit then I don't even know what to say.

[-] Ulrich@feddit.org 1 points 2 weeks ago

Well look into the deplorable shit happening in Yemen and see if you can find some things to say.

[-] jam12705@lemmy.world 15 points 2 weeks ago

But this bombing wasn't about the "deplorable shit" happening in Yemen. It was about access to easier shipping routes. Thats it.

+50 dead in this attack so boats didn't have to go around the horn of Africa.

[-] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 7 points 2 weeks ago

Okay, and you think these bombings will lead to a regime change in Yemen? The Saudis tried that first. Low to moderate level foreign conflicts with a widely hated enemy (which the West and Israel are) do nothing but strengthen the ruling government. Hell, even a full-scale war isn't at all guaranteed to remove the rulers from power, because it gives them legitimacy that they otherwise lack. This is why Hamas is still in power despite 18 years of blockades, three wars and a genocide.

[-] Ulrich@feddit.org 1 points 2 weeks ago

Just because someone tried it and it didn't work, doesn't mean you just say "fuck it". You try new methods and keep working at the problem until it's solved.

[-] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 7 points 2 weeks ago

And what's new about bombing Yemenis?

[-] Not_mikey@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 weeks ago

The US are doing them now, who the Yemeni are even more alienated from and ready to view as an enemy than the Saudis.

[-] chicken@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 2 weeks ago

I looked up what this is about:

The Houthis had "pledged to restart their attacks on Israeli-linked vessels" in the wake of Israel's renewed bombardment of Gaza this month

So maybe you're right, although I wouldn't call what's happening in Gaza "less visible".

[-] RedAggroBest@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

I think they meant in general without going to deep into this specific instance of warfare

[-] Bloomcole@lemm.ee 42 points 2 weeks ago

Yemeni shopkeeper during illegal US terrorist bombing.

[-] biofaust@lemmy.world 25 points 2 weeks ago

Remember all the narrative about the modern warfare and "surgical operations"?

JD Vance said in the signal messages they don't know who the Houthis are. So surgical operations can't really exist unless they spot some equipment and can identify it's purpose as being an anti ship weapon.

Really they are just bombing innocents more than likely and hoping for I don't know what
