I've always found it weird that its called "GoDaddy" and I've never heard anyone question it. Like why on earth is that the name of the company?

[-] fatalicus@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

Because the domain for "Big daddy" was already taken.

I remember the era of "GoDaddy girls" and a different woman on the homepage each month. I actually emailed them feedback that it made me embarrassed to use their service in the workplace.

Okay, I have no opinion on the whole but European thingโ€ฆ but OVH is garbage.

Iโ€™ve never used hetzner but Iโ€™ve heard nothing but good things. If I were to go European, that would be my choice.

Why? I don't know much about these services but I bought a domain on OVH. No issues so far but would like to know if I might get some in the future...

[-] hddsx@lemmy.ca 3 points 4 weeks ago

OVH is notorious for bad support. I believe they might also have uptime issues.

I've spent way too much time and effort on OVH first line support. But then again, I've seen worse supports as well.

I've also had quite a lot uptime issues on all of their zones, but this was several years ago. Mainly their networking randomly going out.

I left GoDaddy back in the Charles Dickens days of the interwebs. Absolutely, GTFO of there.

[-] Lichtblitz@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 4 weeks ago

Oooh, that explains so much. I had to switch the provider after many happy years with them and found a new home at Hetzner.

GoDaddy was teaching master classes on enshittification before that was even an idea.

I am super happy with Uberspace if you need a simple host.

siteground has been a blessing after starting out in godaddy and getting out. Some of the best support I have had as well for wordpress hosting. I spit in the general direction of Godaddy any chance i can get

I was looking for EU or UK registrars to transfer from GoDaddy and also learned 123-reg.co.uk has been bought by GoDaddy it seems?

I went with names.co.uk
