AntennaPod?
AntennaPod. Free, open source and just works perfectly, fast and snappy, unobtrusive. This is the way.
Another alternative is PodVerse. Also free and open source. More features, but more sluggish
I use Antennapod, I like it a lot
For Android there are lots of open source apps to pick from, I find it difficult to recommend a particular one because everyone's got different tastes. AntennaPod seems to be the most popular as far as I can tell but I'd recommend trying several and see what you like best. Best is probably to install F-Droid (kinda like the Google Play Store but for free and open source apps) and just search for "podcast". They also warn about what they call "anti features" in apps, for example some apps use Apple APIs in the background for podcast directories/recommendations.
@Canrith6696 There are many on F-Droid, as other users said. I use AntennaPod, but I can't figure out if it's an European project or not.
I'm using Anytime Player, its UK based and seems very similar to Pocketcasts that I moved from.
Im not entirely sure my feed is automatically updating but need to give it some more time
I use Podcast Player. It works well enough 🤷🏻♂️
