I as lucky enough to use Apollo. As soon as it stopped working, Reddit became useless to me.

(Or not useful enough to use their horrendous website, old.reddit website or official app)

[-] BakerBagel@midwest.social 11 points 1 month ago

Yupp, as soon as i could no longer use RiF, I was done. Trying to mod a small community using the official app was basically impossible.

[-] L3G1T1SM3@lemm.ee 6 points 1 month ago

Boost just stopped working for me yesterday

[-] BevsDad@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 month ago

That's what got me back here but then I found out how a custom ReVanced patch could be used to make it work again. The addiction can now continue uninterrupted!

[-] L3G1T1SM3@lemm.ee 1 points 1 month ago

Followed that and I sign in and get an email that I linked the app and logged in but then boost only shows an anonymous account option

[-] SeekPie@lemm.ee 5 points 1 month ago

Same but with Infinity. Eternity works the same but uses Lemmy, so that's what I picked.

[-] cookedslug@lemm.ee 3 points 1 month ago

same boat. it was my favorite app ever and to this day i can’t will myself to delete it. still grieving 💔

voyager is pretty good though

[-] garbagebagel@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Now I just need the timer for my Lemmy app

[-] 50_centavos@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

I get bad service at my job and the reddit app won't even load most of the time. I use Voyager with Lemmy and it loads just fine. I think it's all the ads and trackers that reddit tries to load before the actual content.

I found it really easy to quit Reddit. The trick is to engage in conversation with a maga, say exactly what you think, and let the permaban system do the rest! 😉

[-] Ledericas@lemm.ee 1 points 1 month ago

it took them to permaban multiple accts to come here, lol. and i also fled to another forum(one specifically how to evade the bans)_

[-] then_three_more@lemmy.world 28 points 1 month ago

It's an addiction. Don't tell to go cold turkey. Have an alternative in place and then gradually reduce your timer for Reddit. Look at how much you use each day on average then set the timer for that. So first your getting rid of your high usage days. After a couple of days reduce it by 5 mins. Keep repeating this. Also, trim down the subs you're subscribed to so there's less new content showing up.

[-] qpsLCV5@lemmy.ml 14 points 1 month ago

easiest thing for me was to just... uninstall the app and use it in a browser.

the experience is so terrible, i don't spend much time on it anymore. seriously, go to reddit.com and see what it looks like with no account and no extensions.

instagram is even worse, once in a while i try to open a funny post someone sends me in the browser, and ... it usually works for the first post (after clicking away a bunch of popups) but if i open a second one i get completely blocked. thanks meta 👌

[-] Droggelbecher@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

What's your alternative? Been meaning to use Lemmy less, but since I started using social media in place of idling/skin picking/bad thoughts when I don't have the energy to do anything else, that's what I return to when I put my phone down. (I have adhd)

[-] then_three_more@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Oh Lemmy is the alternative, this was just for getting off Reddit lol

[-] Droggelbecher@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Lmao makes sense

[-] Ledericas@lemm.ee 1 points 1 month ago

actually the constant flood of trump post made comment less on reddit, i got tired of seeing all the time, and you also have to be extremely careful about commenting on any of sub to begin with.

[-] TacoButtPlug@sh.itjust.works 23 points 1 month ago

I quit. It was simple. The fediverse is a great replacement.

[-] Pondis@lemmy.world 22 points 1 month ago

Weird, I just deleted my account, uninstalled the app, and moved to Lemmy with no desire to go back.

[-] rumba@lemmy.zip 19 points 1 month ago

When they killed off the app I was using, I refused to install their BS.

Web only, especially on my phone was enough to make me stop.

Now I only end up there through search results and that's only when there's no other option.

[-] Arfman@aussie.zone 4 points 1 month ago

One of the dumbest things they did was remove the mobile sized webpage. I only need to check one subreddit sometimes and I'm never going to install the app.

[-] Whats_your_reasoning@lemmy.world 17 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Here's a fun trick to stop using Reddit - simply install and use a VPN.

Just like that, Reddit blocks itself for you!

[-] grrgyle@slrpnk.net 16 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I was on reddit for well over a decade, and performed a lot of free labour, not just as a mod but putting real thought into posts and comments.

Anyway, I requested all my data so I could have an archive of it, then ran my comments through PowerDeleteSuite a couple of times for good measure, and honestly was shocking how quickly I stopped having feelings for my old account.

I've also had no use for the "archive" of posts and comments over the last 10+ years. It just made pulling the plug easier.

[-] Feathercrown@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago

Just delete the app, trust me

[-] x00z@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

It's easy. Just be yourself and say whatever the fuck you want instead of trying to adhere to their stupid ass rules.

You'll get a free ticket out of there in no time.

[-] 1eahmari3@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Here to confirm this method even with being a (small time) mod and having a 15yo account. Hello.

[-] AbsoluteChicagoDog@lemm.ee 9 points 1 month ago

Delete all your comments and posts so Reddit can't profit off them, then delete your account.

[-] DrPop@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

I finally did this. Took a while because I had to delete each individual comment and post, but it was worth it.

[-] Cowbee@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 month ago

Delete the app 🤷

[-] TheCynicalSaint@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 month ago

Eh, it's been less annoying with Tumblr and here.

[-] felixwhynot@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

I have a timer app for blocking Instagram and it works pretty well—I use ScreenZen

[-] garbagebagel@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

That app actually looks really cool, i think I'll try it.

The question remains though, is there something to prevent you from disabling the timer when you've hit your daily limit?

[-] felixwhynot@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

ScreenZen shows a “streak” which gives me some motivation to keep at it. I think you can disable it of course. But. I don’t

[-] Ledericas@lemm.ee 2 points 1 month ago

i never got the hang of using fb, or instagram. only to check up a specfic person, i lose interest the moment it ask you to login.

[-] prinzmegahertz@lemm.ee 5 points 1 month ago

I will uninstall Reddit so i don’t use it anymore.

We can use the website to use it anyways!

[-] DubiousIndividual@lemm.ee 5 points 1 month ago

I have such mixed feelings on it which I hate. I want to cut it fully but it genuinely is a useful trove of information for DIY and things that interest me.

[-] PokerChips@programming.dev 2 points 1 month ago

Those can be built here

[-] Volkov@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 month ago

This to me reads that you have a serious self control issue. If you need to use an app to limit your use of another app, you've fucked up. Learn and practice some self control. You don't need a timer, you don't need to remove the app or get yourself banned, just stop using it. This is like needing to have your parents tell you to do your homework or something. You are in control of your life. You will feel much more empowered if you do it yourself.

[-] gibmiser@lemmy.world 16 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Sometimes people need help starting good behaviors. Trying, and failing repeatedly is extremely demoralizing and can cause people to give up.

Don't shit on people for trying to make a good change in a different way that what works for you. They are not you.

[-] zagaberoo@beehaw.org 9 points 1 month ago

What a goofy take. "Having trouble with self control? Have you tried having self control?" Obviously there's something more going on or life would be a whole lot simpler. Sometimes externalizing a decision through a tool like a timer is part of how a person indirectly exerts self control.

[-] balsoft@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

This to me reads that you have a serious self control issue. If you need to use rehab to limit your use of heroin, you’ve fucked up. Learn and practice some self control. You don’t need rehab, you don’t need to stop buying heroin or cut off ties with your dealer, just stop using it. This is like needing to have your parents tell you to do your homework or something. You are in control of your life. You will feel much more empowered if you do it yourself.

[-] Volkov@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 month ago

Using a website app and being chemically addicted to a strong substance, same thing really if you don't think about it

[-] balsoft@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Not the same, but they share are both serious behavioral disorders and share the same (or at least similar) physiological and psychological mechanisms. Some people who struggle with self-control will absolutely need outside help getting out of these kinds of addictive behavior loops. "Internet addiction isn't real, get over it" has the same vibe as "depression isn't real, it's just in your head".

[-] Droggelbecher@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

This to me reads that you have a serious self control issue. If you need to use therapy to limit your gambling, you’ve fucked up. Learn and practice some self control. You don’t need therapy, you don't need to stop gambling or cut off ties with your dealer, just stop doing it. This is like needing to have your parents tell you to do your homework or something. You are in control of your life. You will feel much more empowered if you do it yourself.

[-] Highflyer33f@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 month ago

That's a shit take with a fuckton of stigma and misinformation behind it, I could argue this all day but I don't care enough. You are no expert and know nothing more than your vibes and feelings, which of course in 2025 your opinions must have as much value as our facts why not?

[-] Droggelbecher@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

My sibling in Christ you're the one arguing that phone addiction isn't real

[-] Highflyer33f@lemmy.ml 1 points 4 weeks ago

How you came to that conclusion when I calmly explained you are a nincompoop for acting like any addiction is merely a self-control issue that only a weaker man would resort to therapy for?

[-] Lumidaub@feddit.org 2 points 1 month ago

Learn and practice some self control.

Yeah. Just... Do the thing, y'know? Just do it. Press the button to self control. Also, stop being poor.

[-] xye@lemm.ee 3 points 1 month ago

Lmao frog and toad, clearly we have achieved supremacy already
