Summary

A German court sentenced five members of the far-right "United Patriots" group to up to eight years in prison for plotting to overthrow the government and kidnap Health Minister Karl Lauterbach.

Linked to the Reichsbürger movement, they planned to sabotage the power grid and spark a civil war, hoping to recruit security forces.

Their leader, Heinrich XIII Prince Reuss, was inspired by QAnon. Authorities have prosecuted multiple Reichsbürger-related cases.

Interior Minister Nancy Faeser warned of the group's ongoing threat to democracy and security.

Eight years?! EIGHT?? I'm all about compassionate treatment alof criminals... but I feel like this is a quintessential example of a crime that deserves an indefinite sentence.

I love the militant far-right's obsession with disabling the power grid. Like yeah, if you took out my town's power for months, ground my job to a halt, and put the vulnerable in danger, I would take up arms...against you.

Yeah. They're completely blind to the proven fact that people and communities often become more compassionate in times of crisis. They're just too selfish and stupid to understand empathy

I feel like every month or two there's an "X arrested for plotting to overthrow the German government" article. Are there just a lot of nutjobs in Germany or are they really good about catching them?

Some are caught, others are allowed on the ballot.
