I am shocked every time I see someone driving that trash. Even ignoring how horrible musk is, the vehicle itself is so incredibly stupid. Their stock dropped when they first unveiled it in a rare instance of the market treating tesla stock rationally.
A clowny, amateurish effort. Deserving of twice the mockery it receives, and it gets a LOT of mockery. I'm a comedian and I hardly need to think, the Cybertruck comedy writes itself.
The fact that it made production at all shows major issues in Tesla's corporate decision-making process that a rationally administered board would take steps to address.
Apart from being a Muskmobile it just looks hideous. People aren't blind Elon.
"You're telling me there's no market for an ugly $130,000 pickup truck that randomly explodes?" - the world's most knowledgeable manufacturer*
*self-proclaimed, YMMV.
I'll probably get shit for it, but I dig the look.
I would never buy a Tesla for numerous reasons, mostly because they are the Apple of car companys, which is anti-consumer and anti-repair, although Musk owning it is a big negative as well.
No worries.
Honestly, I ALSO dig bold design decisions. People hate the Subaru Baja. Puts a smile on my face every time I see one, it's a wacky little truck that makes very little sense.
The Cybertruck... it's almost hard to explain why it gets such an intense reaction. It's Elon. It's the dangerous design (like, the fires are absurd for any vehicles built in the 21st century). It's how many promises fell through, like the bullet-proof windows not actually being bullet-proof, the "exoskeleton" is literally held on by glue, it's a lousy unibody truck by any measure. Oh and it costs a bazillion dollars.
Maybe most of all, it's the Cybertruck fans. They live in some alternate reality where all that stuff just isn't true. To them, it is a badass truck, it is bullet-proof, not only is it not a lousy vehicle, it's the best vehicle ever made. Forget the observable reality of how unpopular it is, they swear it will sell more than the F-150 (probably because Elon said it would). That really makes it impossible for me to like, I don't like the way drinking THAT flavor of Kool Aid tastes.
Yea your points are valid, again I wouldn't buy one for many reasons, including all the ones you listed.
Another 'bold' car design that I may actually buy someday, if the company succeeds, is an Aptera. Funky looking vehicle with a purpose of being as efficient as possible (what all EVs should be doing, not square trucks). They just completed coastdown testing on their first production intent build and did significantly better than any ice or electric vehicle ever has.
That vehicle looks SILLY, love it. I'll review it once it's test-drive ready!
Out of curiosity, have you caught a glimpse of one in-person yet? IMO they look way more tacky up close
I do see one in person every couple days around my parts of the world and you're right, especially from some angles they look tacky and not very high end, but overall I still like the look of them. I wish more companies went for new, weird designs.
I'll probably get shit for it, but I dig the look.
If the truck was .75 sized like a Chevy Colorado, then maybe. Instead it is 1.25 sized. It will not fit a regular one car garage and it is as wide as a dualie truck.
Still, it is a Swasticar and Elon, Tesla, and anyone buying a Tesla in 2025 can get fucked.
Agreed. Even if it wasn't a swasticar I STILL wouldn't drive this uglymobile.
I'd buy one for $40k if it was brand new and I knew I robbed Tesla substantially below their margin mark. If I was taking money from Tesla count me in.
It's more like you'd be letting them cut their losses. $40k > $0
I’d buy one for $40K if they gave me $80K and I got to set it on fire and roll it into Twitter HQ.
It's a fair point but you realize that's not rational right? The truck, though stupid, has some monetary value. If the price gets low enough people who loathe Musk will still buy it. I'm in that camp. I realize that's not a popular stance in the pitchfork crowd but I'm a practical hater.
I mean, you're really just putting value on your distaste of musk. For a 40-60k payoff you can do business with him.
Given the higher probability of fatality driving it than another vehicle in its class, I still wouldn’t get one for $40K. I value my life a lot more than that.
Yea I'm putting a value on my distain but you seem to be misunderstanding the math. If they sell the truck for $80k it likely costs them $60k++ to make. If I buy it for $40k I'm taking $20k away from their coffers. This is all totally made up numbers, I dont work there and know their bottom line. But at the end of the day, at some point SOMEONE is going to give them some amount for the truck. I would sleep fine knowing I took money from the company rather than added to it.
By your math they were down 80k before you gave them your money and cut their loss down to 40k. There's no guarantee that anyone is going to buy them, in fact this is an issue tesla already has. Fields of new cars rotting away because they're not selling.
Saw one in a neighborhood full of Priuses and EVs. Imagine the block party conversations.
