I don’t mean this in a rude way. Feels like the past week or so has had some bizarre questions asked.

True, just some users are posting more oddly recently

[-] doubtingtammy@lemmy.ml 6 points 17 hours ago

It's the great slopification

[-] AuroraGlamour@lemmy.ml 1 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago)

Are you by any chance referring to the user who posted stuff like this? (Not from NSQ but they did post there.)

[-] gandalf_der_12te@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 11 hours ago

omg, that whole comment thread is just so incredibly wholesome. i'm a weirdo too, btw, in case anybody wants to be friends 🤗

[-] AuroraGlamour@lemmy.ml 1 points 10 hours ago

Hello, fellow weirdo!

[-] Alice@beehaw.org 5 points 16 hours ago

That's so mean! I wish people were nicer about stammers, and speech impediments in general. When I got my first service job, I had a handful of customers like that, and I got a glimpse of how much it affects their daily lives. People got impatient and walked away from customers and hung the phone up on them all the time, they were excluded from everything just because they didn't speak as clearly.

And that's just what I noticed from waiting on customers. If they're friends, why isn't OP empathetic?

[-] AuroraGlamour@lemmy.ml 3 points 16 hours ago

I know 🫂 It’s horrible. You should also read their other posts.

Either this is a bot/troll or she is mentally ill with no empathy.

[-] Zaleramancer@beehaw.org 2 points 12 hours ago

When you say that about her being mentally ill with no empathy, what exactly do you mean? I'm asking because it's easy to draw a lot of different conclusions from that statement, and I'm trying to make fewer assumptions when I don't know people well.

[-] jcg@halubilo.social 2 points 6 hours ago

To quote one of their posts directly: "I view people as more tools than anything, and I’m working on being nicer. I say this with 100% honesty, not because I’m being mean. I still feel like I deserve friends, though.". They also post about calling their basketball teammates useless and about hiding behind other players so they aren't actually open to receive passes (but somehow this is a failure of the team's strategy?)

If it's a real person, then I wouldn't necessarily call them malicious but definitely lacking in empathy. But I'm leaning more towards it being a troll.

[-] AuroraGlamour@lemmy.ml 3 points 11 hours ago

Well, she herself says she has no empathy for others and “treats them like objects”. I said mentally ill because she seems to have mood dysregulation problems, no one is ever good enough for her, and she seemed to openly have a breakdown when she posted to her one friend about hating that she was autistic or something. (The post has since been deleted).

[-] Zaleramancer@beehaw.org 1 points 5 hours ago

Thanks for responding, I appreciate it. What you're saying makes sense.

[-] ocean@lemmy.selfhostcat.com 4 points 16 hours ago

That’s the user that keeps asking why their friends don’t like them when they only respond with one worders or all caps, right? Yes, that is one of the users I was referring to, lol

[-] AuroraGlamour@lemmy.ml 6 points 16 hours ago

Seems like a bot or an edgy teen.

[-] ocean@lemmy.selfhostcat.com 3 points 16 hours ago

lol, didn’t catch that part

[-] AuroraGlamour@lemmy.ml 2 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago)

They’re so “usless” without us

[-] AuroraGlamour@lemmy.ml 4 points 16 hours ago

Yes, her!!

Or maybe I should say “YES.” 😂

[-] JackbyDev@programming.dev 3 points 13 hours ago

For folks wanting a summary. https://lemmings.world/post/21140218/13711785

This is bizarre. I hope they find peace. Idk how to not sound condescending when I say that.

[-] ocean@lemmy.selfhostcat.com 3 points 12 hours ago

Thanks for the link. I hope so too. They seem not okay…

[-] NutWrench@lemmy.ml 29 points 1 day ago

I think the questions are from bots, testing topics to farm controversy or outrage points. The greater the number of replies, the more likely the topic will be used in a future marketing or agit-prop campaign.

So you get these really stupid, controversial, psychopathic takes that no one should be taking seriously. The point of the exercise is the emotional reaction, the outrage, not getting a serious answer.

[-] HiddenLayer555@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 day ago

I don't know whether to be flattered that they consider Lemmy a serious enough platform to farm responses or be pissed that they have infected Lemmy like they did with sites like Reddit.

[-] SolarMonkey@slrpnk.net 6 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago)

Definitely the pissed one. It costs next to nothing to farm any particular platform via bots, so why not go for anything that might have niche demographics? Destabalizing leftist groups seems to be sort of a goal of certain other groups these days so..

[-] runiq@feddit.org 73 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Hello, may I acquaint you with our lord and saviour, Artificial Intelligence?

Edit: That came across way more flippant than I'd intended it to be; I apologize. Yeah, I've noticed it too, you're not alone.

[-] ocean@lemmy.selfhostcat.com 13 points 1 day ago

Just like to say that I really appreciate you apologizing and checking your tone, though I thought it was fine! :) the Lemmyverse needs more kind people like you

[-] runiq@feddit.org 3 points 1 day ago

Back atcha :)

[-] Alice@beehaw.org 14 points 1 day ago

Everyone's saying bots but I think some of it is human-generated ragebait. Like that person who posted twice like "why did my friend block me" with screenshots of them devolving into crytyping as they tell said friend how stupid they are for being autistic.

(I took that bait, don't judge, it was cathartic 😔)

As for why, I couldn't tell you. Maybe they're not getting enough engagement on Reddit anymore or maybe it's not fun because Reddit already hates autistic people and will side with them. Who knows.

[-] AuroraGlamour@lemmy.ml 2 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago)

What’s crytyping, I’ve never heard that word before 😅

I would sure hate to be that person, assuming it’s not an alt or someone who’s in on the bait (like their sibling pretending to be the other person)

[-] Alice@beehaw.org 4 points 15 hours ago

I guess it's more of a Tumblr term. It refers to when someone starts typing really sloppily to signify they're having a breakdown.

I guess it's kind of a mean term but I really think people should walk away from the keyboard if they get to that point.

[-] JackbyDev@programming.dev 2 points 13 hours ago

I'm so fucking upset with you rin.im not even going to check what I'm saying and I'm adding a lil more to this to just pad it out and ooh I'm so angy with you grrr

That?

[-] AuroraGlamour@lemmy.ml 1 points 15 hours ago

Ohhh. I mean, she was still treating her friends like crap and that says a lot about her

[-] AuroraGlamour@lemmy.ml 1 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago)

Oh yeah, that person was banned from my instance 😂

I genuinely can’t tell if that was a bot, a troll, or an emotionally unstable person.

From what I remembered, recent account, no profile picture, barely commented.

[-] lol_idk@lemmy.ml 15 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Anything with bullet points is LLM

Personally, every time I see a “Where did all this racism come from?” type post, I always wonder if OP is twelve years old.

Noticed that as well, it's absolutely ridiculous. But judging by the amount of serious replies most people don't seem to care.

Any examples so we don’t just have to guess at what you and OP saw and neglected to highlight the ones in question?
