Actually infuriating things are so far outside of the purpose of this community. When I want to read about the terrible things happening in the world, I go read about them. When I'm trying to take a break and refresh my mind, it is aggravating that I'm still forced to view these issues in my fun communities.

If we aren't going to outright forbid it, could we maybe at least enforce a tag, something like [RI] for really infuriating stuff so that it could be more easily filtered out?

There is now an Actually Infuriating community on Lemmy! Post things that are beyond just mildly infuriating. It's only mildly infuriating that someone didn't make this sooner!

Actually Infuriating

It is actually infuriating that this community is now just a political Musk circle jerk.

[-] Free_Opinions@feddit.uk 17 points 14 hours ago

In my experience it's the entirety of Lemmy, not just few communities.

[-] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 5 points 13 hours ago

What people don't realize is that by engaging with it they are promoting Musk. It would be far better if he was just forgotten about by the public.

[-] SatyrSack@feddit.org 3 points 7 hours ago

Even worse, the "enoughmuskspam" community, theoretically for complaining about Musks being posted everywhere, that does nothing but post Musks.

We need an instance that prohibits news about anything coming out of the USA. I'd sign up in an instant. It's the noisiest and most annoying place on the internet.

[-] DannyBoy@sh.itjust.works 3 points 11 hours ago

I'd love that. I've got every American community blocked and my keyword filter set with every word I could think of about America. It makes Lemmy usabe, but there's still tons of American politics that makes it through.

[-] ExtremeDullard@lemmy.sdf.org 24 points 16 hours ago

If the light-hearted communities you don't want to read about politics in have a "No politics" rules, the mods should intervene when someone starts plugging politics. If they don't have this rule, you should suggest it be added.

[-] Greg@lemmy.ca 17 points 16 hours ago

But there could be genuinely mildly infuriating political content. I think the issue is major political content

Well, it's not black and white.

Some relevant politically-charged content can slip through even with a no-politics rule. For instance, I moderate a community on disability which has "No politics" in the rules. But I let Luigi stuff through, despite it leading very quickly to debates on US political choices, because it is relevant and it's emotionally charged for the people involved. But if any Luigi comments devolved into straight politics (rather than focused on healthcare insurance) I'd kill them.

I think a community can have a no-politics rule and still leave room for stuff that's relevant to the community. But it depends on the community, what the members want and how the moderators enforce the rules. At the end of the day, it's up to the moderators to set the tone and make sure things stay the way the community wants them to be.

I think you’re looking at this through a very US lens. Consider the following fact, The Irish Embassy in Ottawa, Canada is one block away from O’Connor street. It’s mildly infuriating and it’s political. This would not be allowed if there was a no politics rule. The issue isn’t politics in posts, the issue is that recently there have been a lot of very infuriating posts that also happen to be political.

[-] moodymellodrone@sopuli.xyz 3 points 14 hours ago

This is the way. Mods pls!

[-] Acamon@lemmy.world 11 points 16 hours ago

Totally agree.

[-] grue@lemmy.world 5 points 15 hours ago

Does !infuriatingasfuck@lemmy.world exist yet? If not, you should create it so that there's a proper place for these actually infuriating things to be.

[-] ImminentOrbit@lemmy.world 5 points 12 hours ago

No, I'm not interested in creating that community. Someone who is interested in posting and running it may do so, I just don't want it here.

[-] Joshi@aussie.zone 2 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

Since the mods here are already effectively modding that community perhaps they would be interested.

It definitely needs to be separated, this should be a light hearted community.

Saying that mildlyinfuriating will allow actually infuriating content until another community is made is a bit like saying we will have foodporn allowing hardcore bondage content until hardcore bondage content until a community is made for hardcore bondage. That isn't what that community is for.

Even if there isn't a specific infuriating community there is almost always another appropriate place, most often one of the politics communities.
