Were the rock-filled quarries at least exclusive to Stargate, or were they shared among lots of shows like the BBC Quarry?

Definitely not unique to Stargate. I remember a cast member from Power Rangers commenting on how interesting it was that so many rock filled quaries were key strategic targets to the various forces invading earth...

The fun thing about StarGate is the creators are fully aware and even point it out multiple times in the show.

Yes, the nice thing about Star Gate is that the shows don't take themselves seriously. The bad thing about the movie is that it did.
