Sounds about orange*. I don't think even your average white person is this well taken care of in the US court system

[-] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 60 points 11 months ago

Our justice system is a fucking sham.

Got some weed? Be prepared to be SWATted and thrown in jail for years.

Did you just rape, stole, gave top secret material to our enemies and pushed for a coup? Slap on your wrist and pinky winky promise me not to do that again

[-] khannie@lemmy.world 14 points 10 months ago

pinky winky promise me not to do that again

Best I can do is "no".

[-] T00l_shed@lemmy.world 6 points 10 months ago

You could also be killed for it, because the cops fucked up again and got the wrong house and went in guns blazing.

[-] RagingSnarkasm@lemmy.world 44 points 11 months ago

I wish he would try selling loose cigarettes on a NYC street. I hear you don’t even get a trial for that, just straight to sentencing.

[-] smayonak@lemmy.world 23 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

That's a common misconception. Eric didn't have any cigarettes on his person. Meaning the fake crime he was executed for wasn't just minor. It was non existent.

He had been cited in the past for selling loosies. But there's no info on whether they used an undercover or ci to offer to buy a cigarette. Using honeypot traps on pedestrians should be illegal.

[-] NikkiDimes@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

Pantaleo's partner, Justin D'Amico, admitted that he exaggerated Garner's charges. D'Amico claimed Garner had been selling 10,000 untaxed cigarettes, which was a felony. However, Garner had fewer than 100 cigarettes in his possession at the time of his death.

No, he did have cigarettes on him. However, it was not enough to matter, and they killed him anyway because they don't actually care about the law.

I wonder what the fuck is in the water over there, since half the population is crazy!

[-] KingGordon@lemmy.world 17 points 11 months ago

Honestly? We are just stupid and believe America is the best country in every way, despite all the evidence to the contrary. That, coupled with a Fuck You attitude and racism leads us directly to JD Vance.

[-] EmpathicVagrant@lemmy.world 13 points 11 months ago

Cuts to education and removing critical thinking and prep resources from the upbringing of more and more civilians over decades will do that, yep.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 32 points 11 months ago

Yeah, but imagine if he had a bag of weed on him too.

Oh wait, he's still rich and white, it wouldn't have mattered!

[-] skozzii@lemmy.ca 26 points 11 months ago

Yet crybaby Trump it's still whining and complaining.

[-] fox2263@lemmy.world 24 points 10 months ago

Can people start protesting about two tier justice correctly now please?

[-] Psiczar@aussie.zone 20 points 10 months ago

He shouldn’t have been allowed to run until all outstanding criminal litigation was completed, and any punishment served/paid.

[-] Knock_Knock_Lemmy_In@lemmy.world 18 points 10 months ago

Disagree, because it would be abused.

An accusation would all that was needed to take out political opponents.

[-] T00l_shed@lemmy.world 8 points 10 months ago

That's the shitty part. When it was "adults" it wouldn't have been an issue, but since children where allowed to run the government it would now be weaponised, as you pointed out.

[-] JWBananas@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

That attitude was a big part of why Clinton lost in the first place.

[-] tacosanonymous@lemm.ee 17 points 11 months ago

We didn’t have enough cops no-knock raid his home.

[-] RalphWolf@lemmy.world 9 points 10 months ago

"Nobody is above the law."

Lol

[-] jaggedrobotpubes@lemmy.world 9 points 10 months ago

Still trying to imitate a real human smile. Still just as bad it.

He just can't get the hang of it.

[-] TheDemonBuer@lemmy.world 7 points 11 months ago

I feel like the courts hands were tied here. How do you put a man who was just elected to be the next president in prison, or even on probation? Ultimately, the decision was made by the American voters.

That being said, even if Trump had lost this election, he still probably wouldn't have done any time in prison, since he still would have been a former president, and that would have been a tricky enough situation.

[-] tacosanonymous@lemm.ee 21 points 11 months ago
[-] TheDemonBuer@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago

Yeah, but you can see why people who don't want to see the US federal government potentially collapse into chaos wouldn't want to try it, right?

[-] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 14 points 11 months ago

I can’t get into that mindset anymore. Let it burn.

[-] tacosanonymous@lemm.ee 6 points 11 months ago

I would. Even if it was "sentence is delayed 4years and 12 days." Try to be fair and serve justice and let the bad guys be the ones to work on how to disrupt the rule of law further.

It would not collapse. If prison made being president impossible then we would just use his Vice President. Being the replacement is 90 percent of their job.

[-] TheDemonBuer@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

It would not collapse.

I don't know how you can be so certain, but you could be right. It doesn't make any difference, though, because that's not what's happening. Trump isn't going to prison. If there's something you think you can do to change that, go for it.

[-] Maggoty@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

Oh I know what's actually happening. I also know all of the justifications they're using to defend this example of sheer corruption are themselves utterly morally bankrupt. You cannot have a democracy without accountability.

[-] TheDemonBuer@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

I don't know why you think they give a rats ass about morality or democracy. I suppose because they say they value those things? I guess you've never heard of this thing people do called lying.

[-] Maggoty@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

Yeah but if you don't call it out then people will think this is normal.

[-] catloaf@lemm.ee 21 points 10 months ago

How do you put a man who was just elected to be the next president in prison, or even on probation?

Exactly the same as every other person. Nobody should be above the law.

[-] Maggoty@lemmy.world 19 points 10 months ago

Well you start by arresting him and you end by keeping him in prison until the end of his sentence.

Seems pretty simple to me.

[-] scutiger@lemmy.world 6 points 10 months ago

No, you see he was sentenced to unconditional discharge. TOTALLY different.

[-] yournamehere@lemm.ee 3 points 10 months ago

LOL. poor SNL...reality too funny.

sure hillary, bill and all the others dont deserve a punishment for being crooks. may monica go check the mailservers.

[-] mogranja@lemmy.eco.br 5 points 10 months ago

Somebody just needs to add a laugh track to American news, and be done.

[-] Dasus@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

LOL. poor SNL...reality too funny.

How does one even try to parody something like this?

[-] Kyrgizion@lemmy.world 7 points 10 months ago

Matt & Trey are gonna have a hard time with the new season as well. Almost anything they can come up with will be overshadowed by reality within the week.

[-] SkaveRat@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 10 months ago

can't wait for the new LWT season. It's going to be painfully awesome
