[-] adarza@lemmy.ca 37 points 1 month ago

It is ケーキ, not ケキ

Honestly ー can go to hell, it's the only issue I've got with reading tests

[-] Death_Equity@lemmy.world 19 points 1 month ago

Yeah, they did what they always do and elevated something they adopted because they are divorced from the rules that structured it elsewhere.

[-] zart@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 month ago

They just need to add gingerbread skyscrapers getting destroyed

[-] x4740N@lemm.ee 3 points 1 month ago

Or more likely they understood the rules but said fuck it and made it more fun

[-] kryptonianCodeMonkey@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

Skill level: Asian, for sure.

[-] TehBamski@lemmy.world 58 points 1 month ago

Figure it out?!

I think they nailed it!

[-] DJKJuicy@sh.itjust.works 49 points 1 month ago

Japan ~~is still trying to figure out~~ has figured out Christmas.

[-] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 45 points 1 month ago

Making it look like America is still trying to figure out Christmas.

[-] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 29 points 1 month ago

I think they are closer to the mark than we are in North America

I'd love to have a Godzilla in my living room than a plain old Christmas tree

I ride motorcycle and I've lobbied my wife for years to just bring in my bike and display it all winter long and even decorate it like a Christmas tree.

[-] HootinNHollerin@slrpnk.net 12 points 1 month ago

Will bring a nice holiday smell to the house

Crank that HOG BROTHERRRR

[-] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 month ago

lol .... that's only something you could do in a closed well sealed room once in your life.

[-] ours@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

This brings a new meaning to the Hogfather.

[-] emerald 27 points 1 month ago

Sad to see so many places opting for artificial Godzillas these days

[-] pyre@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

it's understandable; they are probably being environmentally conscious and trying to avoid giving the ax to >!the population with another nuclear bomb!<

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

Oh and I suppose you think everyone should go out and kill their own Godzilla for Christmas like in the old days? Some of us don't have time for that sort of thing you know!

[-] ours@lemmy.world 22 points 1 month ago

Kaiju > Jesus.

At least Kaiju are real.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago

Kaiju are responsible for far fewer mass casualties in the last 2000 years.

[-] ours@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

In 2025 I'm celebrating Kaijmass.

[-] eruchitanda@lemmy.world 19 points 1 month ago

Well, I'm pretty sure they won.

[-] x4740N@lemm.ee 16 points 1 month ago

No they've got it figured out

[-] HexadecimalSky@lemmy.world 16 points 1 month ago

I mean Christmas was originally about bringing in forest spirits (believed to live in evergreens) to protect your home from evil spirits (probably bugs), so, godzilla is pretty on point

[-] x4740N@lemm.ee 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Pretty sure christains stole winter solstice from the Pagans and changed it

[-] HexadecimalSky@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

what I described was a pagan tradition, which was "adopted" by, iirc, the catholic church so pagans could convert and still celebrate thier traditions. I don't remember all the winter solictice traditions but I am sure other traditions or holidays have been added to the amalgam over the centuries, like, the whole deal with Santa.

[-] Doom@ttrpg.network 16 points 1 month ago

this is what dominating Christmas looks like

[-] HawlSera@lemm.ee 15 points 1 month ago

It's funny.

If this was a gag scene in a comedy movie, it'd be shunned for being Asiaphobic and racist.

But this is real life Japan

[-] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 14 points 1 month ago

Looks bad ass to me. I would rather have that than a boring old tree shaped tree

[-] x4740N@lemm.ee 8 points 1 month ago

Because it depends on a magical thing called context

Humour is also subjective and you can do it without being an asshole

Understanding the people and the culture can help with that

[-] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 14 points 1 month ago

Japan is lightyears ahead of us when it comes to Christmas.

[-] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 14 points 1 month ago

Figure it out? Looks like a christmas win to me…

[-] dogsoahC@lemm.ee 14 points 1 month ago

Maybe we are the one still trying?

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

That is 100% my kind of Christmas.

[-] Jubei_K_08@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

Figuring out how not to be so badass, you mean? I'd take a Christmas tree Godzilla.

[-] Spacehooks@reddthat.com 7 points 1 month ago

Missing Christmas mothra on top.

[-] 5714@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 1 month ago

Funny. Resisting Christmas through opposition is well established now, while twisting its narrative seems way more effective at making it your own.

[-] djsoren19@yiffit.net 5 points 1 month ago

I feel like we have a lot to learn from this

[-] MonkderVierte@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

But why do the shops have those cookies only at christmas?!
