I've always liked the CoD formula, but unfortunately paying 70€ for the latest MW2 to play something so basic seems not worth it, especially when said game will be abandoned next year. I tried searching on the Steam store, but it feels like there are no serious alternatives on this market. Anyone has a good suggestion that could match what I'm looking for? Other than Titanfall 2, I already played this game too much

I knew I could count on Gordan Freeman to be based

I played Quake champions and an open source arena shooter and quite liked it! Even if I wasnt around back then I think it's an enjoyable style of game

Came here to suggest Titanfall 2, lol.

This is a different niche than COD-style shooters, but it seems like you might like movement shooters if you like Titanfall; games that take the "fast paced" part of your query to interesting places.

FUNKe has made four videos covering the state of movement shooters:

The State of Movement FPS

The State of Movement FPS 2

MORE Movement FPS

EVEN MORE Movement FPS

Someone else mentioned XDefiant, Skill Up gave a great overview of the current state of that game in April, during its closed beta. It's more heavily team and kit focused, but still fast-paced while not being a movement shooter.

thanks for the links! Definitely seems interesting, I'll watch that at some point!

Titanfall is great - so good to see the community still playing

Best FPS game. Gunplay is great. Movement is great. Big ass robots.

Battlebit remastered just released on PC. It's gunplay is way better than it deserves to be and it's 15 dollars. Much more similar to battlefield than cod, but there are modes in battlefield that emulate the cod feeling.

Thanks! I played the beta of that one and it seemed cool, didn't see it just released! definetly gonna grab it, I loved BF4 back then :D

[-] seliaste 3 points 2 years ago

Just played it and I am a bit disapponted, the game felt very janky unfortunately. I'll try it again in a few months

[-] dill@lemmy.one 1 points 2 years ago

Sorry to hear that. It's certainly got some jankyness. But I think it's pretty charming.

[-] seliaste 2 points 2 years ago

it's fine, it was worth a try and they can probably improve! I'm sure it will become awesome with time

xDefiant is looking like it might fill this niche. There is an open beta in a couple of weeks.

The Finals is also looking good, and had some unique spins such as 3v3v3.

Unfortunately there isn’t much out there that competes directly with CoD anymore, I’ve been looking for this type of game for years now.

[-] seliaste 1 points 2 years ago

Thanks! Never heard of the finals

For what it’s worth, after playing the xDefiant beta, I can say it’s exactly what I’ve been looking for! Reminds me a lot of CoD Black Ops 1.

xDefiant was what immediately came to my mind as well. OP should check it out. Feels more or less like one of the more arcade-y CoDs.

[-] 50gp@kbin.social 5 points 2 years ago

why not try teamfortress 2? still going strong

[-] ThisIsMyNewAccount@kbin.social 1 points 2 years ago

Bots though.

[-] Gert@beehaw.org 4 points 2 years ago

xDefiant is an upcoming one that might scratch that itch.

[-] seliaste 3 points 2 years ago

I heard about that one, I'll keep an eye on it even if Ubisoft isn't to be trusted IMO :D

[-] PrinzKasper@kbin.social 4 points 2 years ago

The game director behind xDefiant (Mark Rubin) has previously worked on multiple CoD titles and has pretty openly communicated about how xDefiant is directly adressing a number of issues that the CoD community has with current CoD titles.

[-] seliaste 2 points 2 years ago

oh well it does make it feel more serious then

[-] klangcola@reddthat.com 2 points 2 years ago

Maybe Halo? (Master chief collection)

And of course good old Counter Strike

[-] seliaste 2 points 2 years ago

I tried Halo Reach when it came out on steam but wasn't my cup of tea, the gunplay is quite different from CoD imo. CS is also cool but less fast-paced action

[-] binboupan@lemmy.kagura.eu 2 points 2 years ago

XDefiant is coming out soon.

[-] NENathaniel@vlemmy.net 2 points 2 years ago

Quake Champions is awesome, imo the best shooter around. More movement focused than CoD tho

Respawn's other property Apex Legends is fun if you're really looking to save the money.

[-] seliaste 3 points 2 years ago

Apex is cool but the long ttk makes it feel way different imo

I've been playing Shatterline it's Free to Play and pretty solid.
