Anyone moving their community from Reddit to Lemmy, please could you take the chance to dispose of the silly habit of using "porn" to refer to anything interesting?
So in this case it would be c/AircraftCrack in the new system?
C/OnlyPlanes
We're not on some profit driven page view dopamine binge here, whatever happened to just c/Aircraft ? If it's too boring for people I wonder how they cope in a library. Or maybe everything needs to get labelled "Awesome" there too like we're all 12?
There's a difference. The "porn" suffix was used to indicate it was a pictures/videos of cool and interesting instances of the thing. I'd expect AircraftPorn to be mostly images of cool planes, whereas Aircraft would be more like a forum for people to discuss their new Cessna.
alt.binaries.pictures.aircraft.porn
I'm not getting the hang of this am I?
c/AwesomeAirplanes would fit.
All of them on my account. Every. Single. One.
I went back for my hobbies, then deleted the account again yesterday.
The moderation is worse than ever and all my favourite subs have gone to crap.
For example every subreddit with Canada in the name, specifically personal finance Canada, investors Canada, etc are entirely politics posts now. I’m pretty sure a lot of them are bots.
There are a bunch of Canada subs that are all politically biased monocultures.
My hobby subs are all meme level posts or complaints.
It does not spark joy anymore. My favourite moderators got the boot from their subs and they never recovered.
/r/startpages sort of. It was a fairly large subreddit that I was a mod for but we took it private for a really long time. Eventually I left and the one other mod set it to just private so it could be a bit of an archive.
/r/androidhomescreen was another fairly large subreddit that I was the mod of alone so it has stayed private. I also left that one but nobody has requested it lol
I only ever visit the webversion now. There's no way in hell I'm downloading the app. I also don't have an account anymore and refuse to make one. But when I do visit, I often wonder why I bothered. The quality has gone so far downhill it's almost comical.
I thought most of the closed subs were forced back open by mass firings and replacement of the mods. I visit a couple of local subs but without an account so my view of Reddit isn't what you'd see as a member.
The big ones were, the ones that stayed closed were small enough that they didn’t care
r/fdroid?
mine, uselessserver093
edit: restricted
I've repealed my own moderation permissions from !TalkingAngela@fedia.io (/r/TalkingAngela) after closing it last month, before that I found that sub was owned by an inactive powermod
Next step - account deletion
One I used to run, /r/astrophotogramemes, is still private. Had about 1k subs before the protests. On /r/astrophotography we basically left it unmoderated for almost a year before new mods came in
/r/FloatingIsFun is still set to restricted. We only had about 500 members there at our peak. Somehow, a new post made it in on November 5, and I approved it. Otherwise, it's mostly frozen in time since June 2023. My own test sub /r/HitstunAdminPractice is still restricted too.
