I think we need to create more trans specific meme communities on hexbear to drag more people over from reddit. I'd like to see a punch for punch recreation of /r/traa and /r/tgcj so we can say we are a definitive place to replace reddit for trans users. Currently, blahaj has far too many issues from 196 chasers and we need to up our footing. If I have to, and I hate modding, I'll mod the traa community. I'd also like to discuss strategies for how to go about posting to lgbt spaces on reddit to get people to leave that shithole. Taking over certain communities and redirecting in some way seems like a good idea, maybe poking top posters from traa to come here

I've been calling for a c/transgendercirclejerk for time

[-] GaveUp@hexbear.net 26 points 2 years ago

Pretty sure this would break every single rule hexbear has lol

[-] ultraviolet@hexbear.net 17 points 2 years ago

trans people get the t word pass

[-] Owl@hexbear.net 7 points 2 years ago

Nobody gets the circle pass. Hexagons only.

but it would need per-community slur filters so I can call myself the t slur

[-] kristina@hexbear.net 18 points 2 years ago

mood, i do it a lot irl lmao

[-] AbbysMuscles@hexbear.net 5 points 2 years ago

When my friend circle would meet up we'd call it "[t-slur] Tuesday". But this being the internet we'll have to be a lot more careful

I stepped into tgcj once and got whiplash so hard I never returned lol. All that to say I don't understand it, but I understand some people enjoy it?

traaa would be very welcome

yeah i could see a more toned down version, at minimum we need something like /r/traa

[-] Jenniferr@hexbear.net 5 points 2 years ago

Yeah same thing happened to me. I'm like idk I don't know if I want to be subject to slurs even if it's a joke

[-] CARCOSA@hexbear.net 24 points 2 years ago

I mean the site is a trans site !memes@hexbear.net is a perfectly valid comm to flood with traaaa memes for tgcj the slur filter is hard-coded noone can get a pass. Could you make a !commrequest@hexbear.net post for the communities you want?

[-] kristina@hexbear.net 18 points 2 years ago

Main reason I think is people want to see something with a similar name / objective, would make it easier to onboard people. I'll make a post on that in a bit

[-] ultraviolet@hexbear.net 21 points 2 years ago

c/traa would be cool to have. Honestly I do miss r/traa on reddit despite all of it's problems cus it at least served as a general trans space on reddit-logo

Only if we can say "pronoun up!" to outsiders the way that PCM did about their insipid "alignment" flairs. (half joking)

[-] silent_water@hexbear.net 8 points 2 years ago

it's mandated here lol. no need to say anything cause you have to pick it on sign up.

[-] nocages@hexbear.net 6 points 2 years ago

Hexbear is federated with instances that do not mandate pronouns.

[-] silent_water@hexbear.net 4 points 2 years ago

oh I see what you mean. yeah, pronoun up sounds good to me.

[-] Jenniferr@hexbear.net 5 points 2 years ago

Tgcj uses a ton of slurs is the only thing I'll point out. May go against our rules

[-] kristina@hexbear.net 5 points 2 years ago

Yeah we'll start with traa and work on something from there

[-] AcidSmiley@hexbear.net 5 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

One thing we absolutely have to be prepared for when recruiting is redditors whining about ebil red fash totalitarian tankies, that has reliably happened every time i've seen hexbear brought up in trans spaces on reddit when i was still posting there (which wasn't that long ago).

Edit: Also we may want to keep in mind that all trans subs on reddit are infested to at least some degree with transmeds and /tttt/ reactionaries, which are simply an internal threat to any trans community. It's the main reason i don't go there anymore, even in a "a only visit trans-related subs" kind of way. They're not many, but they are too many.

[-] kristina@hexbear.net 3 points 2 years ago

I'm aware, people are weird

[-] AcidSmiley@hexbear.net 4 points 2 years ago

redditors are extra weird. i've edited my post accordingly because unfortunately, a lot of my trans reddit experience was checking which transmed subs people with bad takes were posting on. These are rare on r/traaaa, but i can't speak for r/tgcj
