Dark Souls 2 has a mechanic to swap your character's gender whenever you want to. From is already okay with genderfluid protagonists.

There was an outrage about that either back when Dark Souls 2 came out, or when they added that to the game - I vaguely remember there not being anything worth note just after the game came out. Either way, "some people" freaked out about it, and the controversy got some wind in the sails due to the gamergate culture war being a thing back then.
What if from software makes a character that's biologically male, but gets raised as a woman because of his moon powers? That would be so woke.

I mean, I get it - as a gamer myself, when buying a new title I don't really care about things like if the game is fun or good or has a healthy community/playerbase, these things don't matter. How many non-straight characters are there, now that's much more important - in fact, if you feature too many it might bring the end of the western world or something.
Sometimes characters in my games have pronouns and I still play those games, but I'm always weirded out by it. Why do people need to talk about them and not use only their name?
