For those of us hit by the recent announcement here is a graph I found with some other services worth checking for your next voyages. I have crossed out All-Debrid too as that is also hosted in France and is bound to be hit by the same hammer as Real-Debrid was.

Feel free to share your alternative solutions in the comments below, but always do you research carefully!

The graph shows which Debrid services are supported by each addon for Stremio. Torbox seems to be a new popular and modern alternative. If anyone has any experience with any of the listed services then feel free to share your experiences in the comments.

Edit: Debrid-Link is also French!

Having lived in France for 2 years i can say that the bureaucracy there is out of control. Paperwork upon paperwork upon paperwork to get ANYTHING done. That said, any formal notice probably took years to draft and send, and then the debrid folks probably can drag their heels for years. I'm personally not jumping ship quite yet but i'll pay month to month and wait it out.

What are some non-piracy use cases for real-debrid?

[-] Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 8 months ago

Afaik: Non.
Personal projects?

[-] Irelephant@lemm.ee 11 points 8 months ago

Out of the loop here, what happened to real debrid? Its the most useful piracy tool i have used in years.

[-] Sunny@slrpnk.net 18 points 8 months ago

In short: it's gone "full legal" mode. Blocking most used streaming sites and removed their API access. So it's literally unusable for folks sailing the high seas.

[-] Irelephant@lemm.ee 7 points 8 months ago

Yeah, very disappointing, luckily, the downloader still works semi-reliably for software. I only have 21 days left anyway.

Trying out TorBox as I write this. Has some cool features and it looks like a lot of people from RD are hopping over to it. New servers are arriving Monday for the huge amount of new users. And it's also quite cheap. There's a black friday sale going on right now too.

Why is AllDebrid crossed out? Just cause its French based as well?

[-] Sunny@slrpnk.net 15 points 8 months ago

I have crossed out All-Debrid too as that is also hosted in France and is bound to be hit by the same hammer as Real-Debrid was.

[-] Imprint9816@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

Kind of misleading as all debrid works fine and there is no guarantee it will be "hit by the same hammer" anytime soon or ever. The reasoning your using is an appeal to probability which is a logical fallacy.

[-] Sunny@slrpnk.net 11 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

Do as you wish, pay for what you want to pay for - its your money.

That being said; these services will have to comply with French law. Real-Debrid probably didn't have much choice to do what they did as they were hit with a formal notice from the French Federation of Film Distributors (FNEF). The french have been for a long while now been trying very hard to remove as many of these services as possible. First it was Hadopi agency, now merged with the Higher Audiovisual Council to form the more powerful regulator Arcom. Here's a SS from this article about their anti-piracy efforts in 2022.

Similar services that are hosted in France will have to comply the second they get a notice from Arcom. France is obviously way more committed to removing piracy I'd say its a good call to not pay into french services... Personally, I wont be paying for services hosted in France as I believe its only a matter of time before more are struck down.

They where "hit" by the Federation of Film Distributors, not by any French court.

We can't assume any legal consequences just yet and certainly not outside French jurisdiction. People should keep their head together before jumping to conclusions of being hit by hammers, or by announcements or worse...possible hangings and guillotines.

[-] Imprint9816@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

I'm not sure why there is so much push back. You made a post showing alternatives to real debrid but you crossed out all debrid even though it works.

[-] vorpuni@jlai.lu 8 points 8 months ago

France has extremely powerful copyright trolls, restrictive laws, and a culture of oppression by bureaucrats. There's even a tax on storage mediums that goes to the MAFIAA. what.cd got nuked, RealDebrid got threatened hard enough that they gave in. I wouldn't spend any money on anything illegal hosted in France.

[-] Imprint9816@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 8 months ago

I mean its already working again...

[-] kindenough@kbin.earth 7 points 8 months ago

Are you not feeling the hammer of being hit by an announcement?

[-] Draconic_NEO@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 8 months ago

They're probably one of the people who were back on r/RealDebrid or r/Addons4Kodi who were blatantly in-denial that anything would ever happen to RealDebrid, and still are in denial about it. Despite the evidence being clear and straight from the horse's mouth.

[-] Draconic_NEO@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 8 months ago

Yeah, it will likely meet the same fate as RealDebrid in the future.

[-] Imprint9816@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 8 months ago

What fate is that? RD still works lol

People just way to wrapped up in the reddit made panic

[-] Draconic_NEO@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 8 months ago

They removed some APIs and are blocking some torrents by name, other torrents may still work for now but don't get too comfortable though. They will likely start removing the cached torrents with copyrighted content in the future.

[-] Imprint9816@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

The API has been mostly worked around. stremio, the major addons, rdt, and zurg works.

People keep saying "just wait..." but nothing ever happens.

There have been issues caused by maintenance that were more troublesome then this.

[-] Draconic_NEO@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

You know what, do as you wish, just like @Sunny@slrpnk.net already said. It's your money and you're free to waste it. However this list and advice is here to help people who desire not to waste their own money not end up wasting their own. Now they've already given an official annoucement on their Twitter that they are taking steps to limit or action illegal content. If you wish to not see the writing on the wall that's up to you, but it does exist and it is happening.

[-] noride@lemm.ee 4 points 8 months ago

I was able to fully switch to Prem this morning in < 15 minutes fwiw.

[-] SilentStorms@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 8 months ago

How is Debrid-link? Its considerably cheaper than Premiumize

[-] Sunny@slrpnk.net 8 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

Not sure myself, just went with one month of Premiumize to test that first. Will then try the rest too see which service suits me better.

Ah NVM... Debrid Link is also French.... https://debrid-link.com/legal

[-] WarmApplePieShrek@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 8 months ago

The 2 and 3 year black friday deal (only this week!) for premiumize is cheap per month

[-] Mr_Blott@feddit.uk 3 points 8 months ago

Any idea how this affects those of us who only use it for random stuff where torrents are too slow or to bypass Rapidshare speed limits?

[-] Sunny@slrpnk.net 3 points 8 months ago

Not sure tbh. Guess it depends what you are downloading and if you are using their service directly and not through their API. They will not block and ban people downloading stuff from their banned lists and their API can no longer be used.

It's better to switch Debrid Service to support someone willing to host a better service imo.

[-] kratoz29@lemm.ee 3 points 8 months ago

Kinda related, it seems that the Fen Light addon creator also says goodbye to the Kodi scene... It seems like a big day for streaming piracy.

[-] Imprint9816@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 8 months ago

Aaaannnd Real Debrid is working again...wild ride this is

[-] Imprint9816@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

Lot of idiots fell for the panic. Haven't heard a peep form the people claiming RD is gonna be dead anytime now lmao

[-] Imprint9816@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

Just a reminder that RD still works lol

[-] Flatworm7591@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 6 months ago

Are you saying they didn't follow through (yet) with what they stated they would back in November?

[-] Imprint9816@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

I'm saying RD still works lol despite the big red x in the chart.

[-] Flatworm7591@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 6 months ago

I'm not a debrid guy myself. But glad it's still working ok for you.

[-] Imprint9816@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

Thanks! Its sad OP won't make a correction so I have to come back and update for them.

They were very rude when they thought they were right but not a peep now. Odd.
