It might just be the picture, but it looks like if anything the tie washes out a little too much relative to the shirt.

I'm not a big fashionista or anything but I would also say that the tie is not a good fit.

It needs to go on something it can contrast with and there it just sort of blends in.

The "general" rule is that your tie should be darker than your shirt. Unless you're Regis Philbin and you're hosting Who Wants to Be A Millionaire?, don't get cute with classic suit rules. No "Eldridge knot" bullshit, no crazy colors, NO HATS.

Personally I would not ask a bunch of Linux nerds for fashion advice

I have no male fashion hobby or interest, but as a layman lurker from /new, I think it looks great.

Also not a regular here, but my first impression is that the gray is an issue here. I think that the pink and the gray would work well, especially with other cooler tones, or lean in on the warm brown with the pink instead (maybe with a dark brown vest?).

[-] Jilanico@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

The lighting was bad. The vest is actually light blue ๐Ÿ˜…

[-] superkret@feddit.org 7 points 1 month ago

It's impossible to give advice on color if the lighting was bad for the picture.
To be honest, all the colors look completely off to me.
But I can't tell if it's my screen, your screen while you white-balanced the image, the lighting or the actual color of the clothes.

Fair. I only realized the blue looked off when I read the comment. The brown and pink do seem to match how they look irl tho

[-] growsomethinggood@reddthat.com 2 points 1 month ago

Ahh, I'm sure it goes together much better in person then!

It took me too long to find the pink.

[-] howrar@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 month ago

I still can't find it. Nor the brown.

Oh no... I guess I didn't realize how bad the lighting was ๐Ÿ˜“

[-] falcunculus@jlai.lu 9 points 1 month ago

Imo the tie and shirt do work together, but they're both quite light and washed-out, so the waistcoat being much darker than both prevents the tie from popping out the way it should. To rephrase : if I squint, I can't really make out the tie from the shirt compared to the waistcoat.

Changing just one thing, a rich/dark red tie or perhaps a lighter waistcoat might work well here.

Otherwise I think you're pretty fly :)

itโ€™s a big swing, considering you already have 3 different patterns/textures, but wear it with confidence & youโ€™re good to go ๐Ÿค“ love the shade of pink ๐Ÿค™๐Ÿผ

[-] iamanoldguy@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

The way your wearing it it does.

[-] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

I think I'd simplify either the shirt or the tie. They're kind of fighting each other for attention.

[-] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 month ago

Something about this makes me feel like I'm looking at a negative (inverted) image.

Whats the button/pocket chain?

[-] Jilanico@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Pocket watch chain I attach to my smartphone. I feel like smartphones today are like pocket watches of old - mobile devices we use to stay in sync with the rest of the world.

[-] Glent@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 month ago

Rad. Is it possible to find new pocket watches anymore that arent chinese crap. Would love to start carrying one

[-] Jilanico@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Not sure, but you should be able to find a vintage one for sure.

Fun fact: most jeans have a tiny pocket inside the right side pocket. That is specifically meant for a pocket watch that you can chain to a belt loop.
