imagine being more strict on piracy than reddit
gotta appease those lemmy.world shareholders i guess

They're totally going to run ads
I fucking love when people who showed up a month ago say shit like "this is the Fediverse working as intended."
iverse
Hexbear, lemmygrad and lemmy.ml really ruining the lemmy experience. Smh
I was on some instance and they mentioned .world is or is trying to be the face of the fediverse.
I demanded democracy.
Authoritarian iberals will never allow us to vote who we want to represent the fediverse.
I just wish this wasn’t done at the request of a transphobic racist whole just did it to get back at is for getting banned for making transphobic and racist communities in this instance.
Pirates who share on the bear (hexbear) stay winning.
Easy enough to block .world and defederate from them on personal instances. It's devolved into a bunch of Reddit level shitposting already anyway.
What massive fucking nerds lmao
What a bunch of nerds
DORKS
so fucking funny that these dweebs left reddit all in a self-righteous huff only to let that experience inform their efforts to build an even worse version of it
its for the benefit of everyone: its always possible to make separate accounts to satisfy separates needs: account for piracy, account for nsfw material, account for hex, etc..
🙄
account for piracy
account for nsfw material
account for hex
etc..
Doesn’t that go against the very point of federation?
in a perfect world yea, but in reality some distance need to be put between the user and some sensitive content: u got the rest of the fediverse to federate with. Legally pursuing Lemmy.world proves that Lemmy is in fact a house of cards against corporations might (a part from the current ddos attacks).well, at least the instance admin would be in danger. U wouldnt want a fellow lemmie to be hurt would u ? consider it an online social distance of some sort. At this rate, any instance with major usercount would be obliged to follow suit and block those communities/instances, Hex might as well block them from now. also we users oblige the instance owner to cache other instances content for us to browse, so having certain defederated blocks would ease the load on the overall instances, and as users, it would be our duty to have multiple accounts in those corresponding blocks, like Hogwarts Houses, or Hunger games districts.
#spread_the_load
The title is inaccurate. They blocked two specific piracy comms, not their entire instances. That is a measured way to avoid being taken down or sued for piracy.
True, made an edit.
they are gonna block lemmy dot gardening because someone recommended not using monsanto's seeds and that's not fair
no more half measures walter
Considering that lemmy caches all the data locally and each instance is essentially a users client for the rest of lemmy and lemmy.world is just running on some guys vps I get it, sure. Makes me want to have my own instance so I can cache posts on my own stuff outside direct US surveillance
As if half the images on their site aren't copyright violations.
A community to talk about the Fediverse and all it’s related services using ActivityPub (Mastodon, Lemmy, KBin, etc).
This is not the place to gossip about other instances.
